They will launch zenfone 9 in December 2023 in India because that's what they did for zenfone 8. Pathetic.

But many other people don't mind flat screens or outright think they're better than curved screens. The market isn't revolved around just you, it's revolved around millions of people. And most of those millions of people think that flat screens are better, so here we are with most phones in the market having flat screens. But there's still also plenty of phones with curved screens.
Also yes I get that companies are using Apple's flat sides and stuff (even if Sony used flat sides a whole year before Apple brought them back) - but at least Asus is also trying to be fairly unique at the same time with the compactness, large camera bumps and small little details on the back (making it more unique than last year's Zenfone 8 which looked like typical 2021 smartphone, but small). You have a few points with the phones you listed, but the only one that truly looks really similar to an iPhone is the Nothing phone (1) - and that still has uniqueness to it with it's transparent back and lights.
oh yeah also Asus literally just announced the ROG Phone 6 series two days ago and those have curved screens and edges and an unique design lol

It wouldn't be 100% accurate due to bezel but nowadays the bezel is pretty small (unless they secretly do some stuff like putting front facing speaker)

I was interested in the Nothing phone but any phone that has the right dimensions for me (compact) is the better pick for me. I'll cancel my plans for the nothing phone and get this one instead

They released the best gaming phone of the year and it seems they about to bring the best compact phone of the year. I really appreciate what Asus does. Truly an incredible effort they're putting into smartphones

I know someone with big hands and he thinks his S21 Plus is "compact"
Zenfone 8, iPhone 13, S22, 12X they all are "compact enough" in my opinion.
12 and 13 Mini being compact as of current market.
But then there are the Sony phones which are narrow but high so for people that care about a narrow phone, that could be compact to them.
So you are fully right, what makes a phone compact is subjective most of the time.

I had high hopes Nothing would take this route, but went bananas with 6.5' screen, mid range processer, no headphone jack. Asus 9 ticks all my boxes.
