Leica filters installed on miui 13/android 12 phones is now very hot in China.
Can you intall that on 11 ultra and then compare to see if there is any difference.

If you argue that people don't zoom in, then I say that without zooming in, on a small display like a phone, a decent midranger camera such as A52s doesn't look any worse that's what's posted here.
Then question is why spend all that money on placing such large camera sensor if people don't do what it takes to tell difference with it? Why not spend it on something that translates to usefulness for most consumers.
The answer is, there's more than just providing usefulness. A flagship/expensive phone is also about showcasing it's technological prowess. For example, a Golf R will do what the Polo does but also other things that's outside everyday practicality.

And camera is one of the main selling point of these expensive phones and manufacturers spend lot of money fitting these impressive hardware. It's just not right for them to be negligent with regards to software.

Yes, everyone prefer slightly more processing. None likes looking at pure RAW images. But when foliage starts to look like jagged green mess, then it's not slight, rather its excessive processing. Any processing that causes details to be lost in pixle level, is excessive. I strongly believe people would find a slightly processed image way nicer than overprocessed one. As for surveys, we don't know at what settings and parameters they took place under.

I would like to see a comparison between the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and the Samsung S22 Ultra. 50 Mpix seems to be a good value for a 1 inch sensor. Samsung unfortunately exaggerates the number of megapixels in relation to the sensor size.

Anonymous, 12 Jul 2022Complete waste of 1" and also the 1/1.2" sensor. ... moreI have seen many dedicated camera manufacturers (especially Fuji and Leica) applying much more aggressive sharpening to its images. The reason why they still get away with it is that these cameras have much higher resolution compared to Xiaomi's 12MP, which makes the overprocessing less noticeable until you zoom in all the way up to 100 percent.

If you see samples from video centric mirrorless like Panasonic GH5S, you can tell that its less than optimal image enhancements are much more visible across the image, with ringing and blotchiness appearing everywhere.

[deleted post]'Korean' or 'Japanese' phones are also produced in either Vietnam or China. Vietnam is, in case you weren't aware, also a communist country with severely limited human rights.

Don't even get me started on how Japan treats foreigners as well - the 70 percent of business organisations that has adopted Foreign Technical Internship System has been found to be handling the interns illegally one way or another(Prohibited overwork, passport confiscation, lack of safety managements, et cetera), not to mention that the Immigration Bureau has killed dozens of detained foreigners through neglects and denial of medical support.

If you really want to support human rights, don't buy any smartphone at all and use your old one until it gets broken and rendered completely useless.

HutHutHut, 11 Jul 2022Just an observation here... There appears to be some seriou... moreMine 11 Ultra unit same as yours - much better corner sharpness than that one shown in gsmarena samples. Tick sharp at corners, just as you say in lower light slightly noisey. speaking of sharpness there is no diff to 12S Ultra vs 11 Ultra - raw images compared.

Panino Manino, 12 Jul 2022Reminder that "Swallow Depth of Field" is NOT Bok... moreBokeh is the pleasing and aesthetic quality of out-of-focus background blur in a photograph that you get when shooting a subject using a fast lens at a wide aperture. The faster then lens/wider aperture and larger the sensor the more bokeh. The shape of the aperture ring also effects how the bokeh will look, though less so in smartphones since the majority doesn't have one.

"“Bokeh” is an English word that is a translation of the Japanese word “暈け” or “ボケ” that means: blur—specifically out-of-focus blur. So, why not just use the already established word “blur?” Because the simple English word “blur” can be applied to motion blur as well. Also, the word bokeh also encompasses the Japanese word “ボケ味“ meaning “blur quality.” So, bokeh is more than the blur, it is a word used to describe the aesthetic quality of blur"

Anonymous, 11 Jul 20225iv will have same SoC, camera system and battery of 1iv. ... moreIt's very unlikely that the 5iv will be a direct competitor against the 12S Ultra. At best, it will compete against the 12S and 12S Pro. Xperia Pro-I ii will make sense.

[deleted post]You mean like Sony and Samsung? One is just as likely to get one of their devices made in Vietnam or Thailand, if not located in Korea or Japan. That is just their products as a whole though. Several components are of course made in China.

It's not Xiaomi's fault what their government does any more then it is Sony, Samsung or Apple's fault what their government does.

Also, if you want a Xiaomi device not made in China, for whatever reason, then buying one in India would be an option. I think most, if not all, Xiaomi phones sold in India are made there.

“Now 99% of our smartphones and 100% of our smart TVs are manufactured in India and the majority of the components for smartphones will be locally manufactured or sourced from India” - Xiaomi (February 2021)

Complete waste of 1" and also the 1/1.2" sensor. Zoom in and you see all those details are ruined due to oversharpening, edge enhancement etc. Zoom into the foliage and they look like some jagged green mess. Xiaomi done a really bad job here. Unfortunately this is the trend across all manufacturers though.

It's really impressive what Nokia achieved with 808 pureview 10 years age. I look at that comparison gsmarena made between it and 11 ultra and keep realising that Nokia had people with right mentality working in camera software development. That's why it still holds up well till this day in many areas. you got to excuse the dynamic range, low light, stabilization and few other things due to technological limitation it had.

Sadly, although you have great hardware and technology today, people writing the software have really bad mentality. Which is why these phones are forgotten in a year or two.

I'd say, out of the devices reviewed within a year, p50 pro and Xperia 1 iv seems to have much more sane approach image processing. Their results are nowhere near as bad as Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple and other popular names

I'd suggest to get a build of GCam where you can tune post-processing parameters to get the best of the impressive hardware. Don't rely on manufacturer's software
