Obviously it's all unexpected, looks like they made great amount of tuning compared to changes in older generations.
As for quality degradation, I did not see any, but could be lens issue, it's a thing even in some expensive Sony lenses.

Even if software and ISP were same compared to 11 Ultra, just moving to much larger cmos would automatically give edge over 11 Ultra.
So, you cant be "shocked" it does better than other phones that are using much smaller sensors.

In image 31 the ghosting in the leaves is quite prominent if you zoom in. Its colour fringing. It may be due to a lens issue.

I even forgot it got less of distortion, improvements are vast...
Not sure which portion you mean, or if all, but I did not see that. Could anything...or not much...

Strange, but in daylight I see more details in the 11 Ultra. The 12S Ultra looks just oversharpened but the leaves, trees seem to be clearer on 11. Yes, for night shots, this year's phone is better.

You do not have control over environmental standards. Even side by side conditions can easily be different.
Look at the tiles on bathroon wall. The temperature, level of luminosity, humidity, oxygen concentration can be different between both.
Only studio shots can secure nothing external has influence.

Wow, ultrafast shutter speed, less noise, more detail(natural and even in hi res and low light), better lens - no corner softness in any lens, better colors, hdr...
And for that price... Sony and the rest can hide behind corner now lol, surprised even me.

The noise reduction is considerable with that huge sensor, companies make a lot of effort to improve their cameras, in such a small space.

Note that certain periscope cameras as well as the main camera of the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate will give you slightly more background blur.
