SShock, 21 Jul 2022Lol, look at this funny guy (and not in a good way). You do... moreIts not about 'the same blue print in different factory', but how moving to tsmc enabled the higher clocks and lower power usage. Whats the point of all those samsung news articles?
"TSMC having slightly better fab process is those 5% extra as cherry on top which they might not get with Samsung."
Where is the above nonsense of yours even from?

Mediatek sux, 21 Jul 2022If you cant provide any source, why do you keep spouting no... moreLol, look at this funny guy (and not in a good way). You don't understand even the basics yet you (self) proclaimed that it's nonsense. How do you know it's nonsense if you don't even understand the very basics of chip design and fabbing process? Ask ANYONE and they'll tell you fabbing chips is not an universal process where you just show a chip blueprint and anyone can just churn out new chips from the factory. We're telling this literally in every single article where everyone is (over)glorifying TSMC.
You want sources? Start with basics...

https://news.samsung.com/global/eight-major-steps-to-semiconductor-fabrication-part-2-the-oxidation-process

https://news.samsung.com/global/eight-major-steps-to-semiconductor-fabrication-part-9-packaging-and-package-testing
In your case, pay attention to part 4 where they talk how chips are actually designed, because that's the part you're calling me out on. Though they don't go into specifics why you can't just use same blueprint in different factory.

Mediatek sux, 20 Jul 2022Source?Source? It's literally chip design and fabrication basics. One does not simply make chip in different foundry using different fab process without redesigning chip and just magically making it better this way. If people think SD 8+ Gen1 is just SD 8 Gen1 made at TSMC instead of Samsung, they are not just mistaken, but thoroughly delusional.
In order to produce some chip at TSMC, Qualcomm and TSMC have to work together to design the chip using TSMC's fab "logics". You can't just bring old blueprints of design made in different fab with different process, scan it into machine and away we go. It doesn't work that way. And in the process, Qualcomm revised several Snapdragon chip logics, most notably clocks and most likely voltage curves as well. That's what really made this big change. TSMC having slightly better fab process is those 5% extra as cherry on top which they might not get with Samsung...

SD Gen 2 comes with AV1 decoding, which is going to be useful since Youtube and Netflix is adopting it. Speaking as someone who kept their old phone for 5 years, I would see this as a good reason to upgrade.

I hope Samsung will use SD 8 Gen2 in their Galaxy S23 lineup in Europe too. I've decided to go with Android again next year, just to see how things are there and if they've improved at all, but it's all down to Samsung if they'll use Exynos or Snapdragon next year...

Anonymous, 20 Jul 2022Why release new chip every year? Just release a proper upda... moreAndroid makers only earn money from hardware.. people will not buy stale hardware.. so no choice have to upgrade. And because there is so many makers all running the same OS.. they have to beat each other in price and looks. Throw in as many gimmicks to outshine the other.
Apple in the other hand, rely on software and hardware. They start with an entry device, lock you in to the performance, ease of use and a wanting for more. So you keep expanding and expanding on more Apple devices. Soon Apple software becomes your daily life, in your car (CarPlay), in your desktop (MacOS), On your hand (Apple Watch), in your ears (AirPods), In your cloud (Apple +), on the go (iPads). They do not go fast in hardware, but they do go fast in yearly OS updates.
So Apple users have multiple Apple devices, which they upgrade not frequently.
Android in the other hand, only 1 device.. no interest in watches, android auto, or pc. and upgrade their phone frequently.

Fortunately for Android users, Qualcomm will use TSMC's manufacturing process at least up to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Of course, if you look at the leaked results so far, you can't catch up with Apple's A chip, but at least it's better than the worst chipsets like Snapdragon 888 and Gen 1.
The unfortunate thing is that TSMC's manufacturing costs are increasing and they lack the manufacturing plant to build chipsets.
Qualcomm will go back to Samsung when it is too expensive to handle or TSMC is too busy to make chips.

Why release new chip every year? Just release a proper update every 2-3 years. SD870 is still being used and works well which shows no need to release chips every year
