Samsung's upcoming "Hexa²pixel" sensor to hit 450MP resolution

26 July 2022
The 200MP HP1 and HP2 use Tetra²pixel color filters, an evolution of the original Tetracell designs.

Anonymous, 26 Jul 2022I'd rather higher quality over higher resolution Higher quality here means better resolution with color sensor aid, but even so, I often hear pro's talking about colors being no problem, as you can change that in postprocessing.
You cannot add more resolution/detail later tho, so it matters a lot.

Does this leads to improved picture quality or is this just a numbers games like speaker output of hifi systems P.MP.O vs RMS

I still miss Nokia/Microsoft's PureView oversampling algorithm. It's beyond brilliant. Imagine having that with this 450MP sensor. That'll be WILD!

Anonymous, 27 Jul 2022Photo tool is so great. Scale to 12MP. Sounds weird when... moreNotice how Xperia L3 is also resorting to a much slower shutter speed - because of this, three phones capture a fairly comparable amount of light despite the massive sensor size difference between Xperia and Galaxy/iPhone. L3's laid-back noise reduction definitely gives its image a very "neutral" look (and it's not a bad photo considering its tiny sensor), but S22 clearly retains more textures and fine colour details.

Take a look at the tips of the coloured pencils, the subway map, the fish on the lower left corner, the brown band that holds the coloured strips, the pink fluff on the bottom and the heart-shaped knitting as well as the black ribbon on right above it. They all look greyish and muddled up on Xperia, and any fine details seem to be replaced by fine grain-like noise that doesn't contain any useful information.

This means nothing without proper implementation and good algorithm.

It is basically HP without the NM

Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi etc. All have better detail.

But I'll say about the scientific method we find supporting evidence but we don't seek to confirm our bias..

If my hypothesis is "birds fly" I don't seek info that confirms this

I try to DISPROVE this aka try when I cannot find data AGAINST this then I say it's true or a theory or whatever

So we actually to try to prove ourselves "wrong" and when we CAN'T prove it incorrect then we conclude not to be true not the other way around

Also I am logical everything has logic..logic is just a mechanic.. even emotions are logical they do have a logic to follow

Nick Tegrataker, 27 Jul 2022Not really. Not wrong either. What I'm trying to say is that are you solution doesn't matter on mobile phone cameras. You can increase the megapixels and create 10000 pixel photos. But with the whole heavy noise reduction and the whole overprocessing they are doing, don't expect this to be 10,000 sharp pixels that you will be able to zoom in and see every detail.
Considering that the photos will be huge, that will be a huge information reduction for the photos to even be 20mb of size.
And before you mention pixel binning, pixel binning doesn't necessarily mean better photo.

IpsDisplay, 27 Jul 2022You don't "know" how sensors work Just li... more"Just like everyone else you are LEARNING which means your understanding of it is subject...actually inevitably will change overtime"

The way sensors work doesn't fundamentally change. We now have binning that still follows the same way older sensors worked (light gathering, SNR, etc) but is still different than traditional sensors. This sensor will have pixels so small that most of the colour wavelengths are bigger than them (assuming the sensor size is the same as the 200MP sensor), so what will it be capturing?

"And you are conditioned all your doing is taking the know how of how sensors work and project those principles unto the future"

Now you're talking like some delusional person who thinks we can change everything in the future. Sensors work fundamentally the same way across time, it's not going to change. There are physical limitations that we can't get past at all. This is something companies, scientists and anyone with logic can understand. You unfortunately lack logic and clearly aren't part of the other two groups either.

"This isn't court but it is a scientifically developed product that uses scientific principles"

Again if you understand the scientific principles then you wouldn't be making this trash argument. Physics is part of science btw, just in case you didn't know, and there are physical limitations that we can't overcome no matter what. You can only go so small before you get no benefit, you can only gather so much light on a sensor, there are still limitations that exist and will always exist.

"And the scientific method is to not confirm our bias but to try our best to prove ourselves incorrect and when we cannot do so we then state why we are correct"

You might wanna read up on the scientific method buddy. We don't try to prove ourselves wrong with the scientific method, we make a hypothesis after observation and then test it by conducting experiments to see if they are true. After we draw conclusions to see if they support our hypothesis or not.

We don't try and actively prove ourselves wrong. That doesn't make any sense.
