For some people everything is a sensor measuring contest.

Probably full area would be 18mm or 17,X mm. Havent done the math to have exact number.

I do not like this. But also do not like bump almost as thick as the phone.

Curved sensor would help a lot. But highly doubt the price is any worth for phones. Also proper lenses are harder to design.

So dumb to have all these stuff writen there.
Like those low end with " quad AI camera".

To me it is very odd that Sharp R7 is also pointed to have 989. Actualy both are pointed to be 1.02" .
Even if it was a variant of 989, it would take at least 6 months (in some cases more than 2 years) until xiaomi exclusivity expires since they paid for half the development costs.

Oddly enough, the introduction of this phone forced many photography-related websites to use Type-x convention paired with width and height, instead of the optical format in inches for smaller sensors - which is understandable for two reasons:

              1. This is one of the very few smartphone cameras that have a Type-1 sensor, and the only one from a reputable phone company with a large market share. When Xiaomi announced this phone, many people on photography/camera websites got confused and questioned why it's called 1 inch despite not having 1 inch diagonal length because (extremely surprisingly enough) many of them weren't very familiarised with the inch notation used in the optical format.

              2. If I'm correct, this is the largest Type-1 sensor you can find on any smartphone AND on camera, due to the fact that it's a 4:3 sensor instead of 3:2. One is over 11% larger than the other despite both being "1-inch" in size, which makes this entire situation even more chaotic.

DPReview, Imaging Resources, PCMag, PetaPixel and the few reputable YT channels will all stop using the inch notation from now on, and GSMArena should consider doing the same given how much emphasis you put on the camera section for every phone you review.

What matters is results, and maybe Vivo X80 Pro has better main cam than xiaomi 12s ultra
