Anonymous, 10 Aug 2022"it will also encourage other non chinese companies to... moreYou are absolutely right there. It will scare the countries with we have "geopolitical issues" to invest in here. There are only two of those countries.

Samsung has its biggest mobile manufacturing plant in India. There are PLI schemes going on for many sectors from electronic to automobile to EV, where both Indian as well as foreign brands are given subsidies to manufacture here. Apple will ship iphone 14 from India and China in parallel for first time. We are not adverse to foreign players.

Now don't tell me that avoiding china has some economic consequences. It has and we understand that. But you also need to study other aspects of India China relationship to understand these decisions. I will give recent example of deeper economic engagement between Europe and Russia and their consequences in case of a conflict.

Again, we very much value free market competition.

No it won't. It scares all other competitors if there are geopolitical issues with the indian government same thing will happen to them. If you're willing to do that to Chinese companies you can easily do it to others.

But really, China's had its fair share of protectionism, maybe even a good deal more than its "fair" share, but this is completely beyond what I've seen from China in its audacity and complete lack of any sense of shame. "Ban any product in this category from this country in this price bracket"? This is the 21st century, people!! Not the late 19th!!

aknsreddy, 10 Aug 2022Nope we don't like these cheap phones Maybe you don't like these sub $150 phones because you can afford phones which are priced above $150 but I find it very difficult when I have to buy or recommend my friends and relatives a sub $150 phone because their budget doesn't allow them to go above $150, a Lava or a Micromax phone because I know for the price point that I am targetting, a better phone is available although chinese. I go with the chinese phones because they are better than even nokia or samsung phones in this range. I think there are better ways to facilitate the manufacturing and sales of an Indian company than strait out banning the competition

And while I am all about a country relying on itself; the quality matters.
For example, we in KSA receive a lot of these unknown Indian brands (treadmills, phones etc) and there is zero aftersale support, with most of these goods failing rather quickly.
This is not an issue when thigns are sold in their own country as it is much easier to deal with this and find parts.

Before banning Chinese phone makers, Indian govt should make sure that the local players have good technology in making such handsets like Chinese companies. It is good that indian.playefs are to be encouraged but at the same time govt should make sure that Indian manufacturing companies have standard techniques and technology like Chinese.

you have to suffer, 10 Aug 2022indonesians mostly use oppo and vivo than xiaomi, samsung, ... morecan relate, xiaomi-made phone are so bloated people prefer bbk-made phone instead.
even people who bought xiaomi phone priced around 5m rupiahs are actually so well-informed they prefer snapdragon over dimensity so they could put up custom-made rom in it (i'm talking about eradicating a lot of xiaomi problem in one stroke here, so you know).
for instance, some reputable seller in tokopedia still have xiaomi 11t in stock for 4,9m rupiahs (was price 6m during launch, 8/256) vs poco f3 which already extinct (could still find one though, but with "unattractive" price tag)

for the second part, sadly, most indonesian i know doesn't know engish at all or very bad at it.
it's so bad that most older people doesn't regognize either gsmarena or androidaithority (i'm talking about information bubble here, even when you do your search using english there is no way you stumble upon those names if google decide to giving your search result in indonesian).

and for the last part, i bet every single person who knows gsmarena wouldn't believe every single crap people who selling phone on tiktok, however the number of people who got eaten by their bs and actually buying stuff there is so unreal i almost dying laughing at it 🤣🤣🤣.
