Very clever, India.
First force them to invest in factories, and building local supply chain of materials as well, then force them out and let Indian makers take over their brand new multi-billion factories after they get pushed out by this new ban.

The key point is that the government is trying to ban sub-$150 phones from Chinese brands only - Samsung is more capable than any Indian smartphone company of filling the gaps in the market.

We don't have issue with foreign companies leading our phone market. Nokia and Samsung were leading in our market for a long time. This move will not only give Indian players some breathing space, it will also encourage other non chinese companies to bet on our market.

so since the local brands could not compete with the chinese brands they'll just ban competitors, so the consumers got no choice but to buy locally or pay more to import the phone they want.

And government could help by imposing a huge tariff on phones that cost less than $1000. Still better than "ban anything below $150 because local product, which is worse in every way, can't compete in this price segment".

People who mindlessly comment here. First, need to show were govt announced anything like that? Indian govt needs to bring laws to stop fake news. Otherwise communist Indians along with their paki and chinese friends will riot everywhere and destroy the lifes of other indians.

actually people who are commenting here just don't understand one logic:
price of any product is cheaper when they are made in large scale. that is why indian brands can't compete with chinese brands. that's the reason of this ban. when indian brands captor the sub $150 phone market they will be selling phones at huge number and price will automatically come down to the level of chinese phones. indian companies need this chance to grow.

I thought the Indian market and Indians themselves were happy with these companies.
Many reachable phones and work opportunities.
But no, a gov has to shut down a good thing. Much like in KSA.

I mean, the Oppo A96 and Vivo Y35 with Snapdragon 680 totally need 8GB RAM right? *Ahem* or just to make their high prices seem justifiable...
