Hopefullyit will stay without holes in the display.

I know xperias are expensive, but this one seems worth it as any other phone does have hole

    if:
    - this will come to my country
    - will have 8+gen1 soc (or even regular 8gen1 with good one full day lasting battery life)
-good selfie cam from 1 IV
    - confirmed wireless charging

...will be my perfect and next phone! Hope to come back to sony, sony please!!

i don't care about super long sw support, two-three years is enough for me.

i love compact phones, from now on I think I should say i love one-hand friendly phones. and i am sure this is one-hand user friendly, because of the form factor and the top bezel, making it easier to reach upper screen side.

i can't stand notch and punch holes, thanks sony for not giving up to screen like others oem. i love small bezels and no screen aberrat

Finally, cannot wait for this to arrive. I do hope that it will share the same camera hardware as the Xperia 1 Mk4.

I have a very fast microSd card so the new Google APIs is an extreme change. OsmAnd+ goes from being an excellent app to not being able to launch at all - the phone gets hot and reboots. I got the F-Droid version that can use the older API, otherwise this phone would be useless.

Also see cacombos for which bands are actually working.

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2022First of all it doesn't work that way. You are throwin... moreSunlight legibility runs from 500 to 800 nits, anything above it is only necessary if you phone is being hit directly by floodlights. And this is the thing with the AMOLED displays and sunlight, the harsher the sunlight hits your display the more color gamut you loose and you loose even more when your display tries to combat that sunlight and dials in the super unnecessary brightness at over 1000 nits. Like I said sunlight legibility is between 500 and 800 nits and anything above that is phone trying to melt your eyes just so it can or you are right on equator at 1PM. And getting better HDR video experience at brighter portions of the screen is only half the truth, the other half will be explained in paragraph below.

S22 Ultra and 1IV displays are fundamentally different beyond sRGB. At sRGB they are both the same but what goes beyond it totally different story. Vivid mode on S22 is DCI-P3 gamut while Creator mode on 1IV is REC.2020 gamut push. Of course Xperia is not going to cover whole REC.2020 gamut but approach at displaying HDR content is different between the two.

And then there is PWM which is flickering beneath displays brightness softspot. S22 Ultra has PWM at 120Hz while 1 IV has it at 480Hz which means you go dimmer without flickering.

One Sony let you manually get the about 600. And without paying with settings or in specific app use cases 560 to 600 is the max 95% of users are going to reach.
Samsung gives you an extra brightness toggle that takes it up to 830 nits. That's not ambient light. Just a toggle. Then on top of that can go up to agonist 1300 nits.

It simply gets brighter and that's so there is to it. Sony has had like 5-7 years to get their 4k displays brighter. Yet still matching 6-8 year devices in brightness.

First of that has nothing to do with what was said. They said Sony is accurate and Samsung is not as a rebuttal to the fact of how dim the Sony display is.
Which again is not factual. While the samsung display.... and most others can get much brighter there is very little difference in color accuracy between them.

The accurate mode in fact can get much brighter than 500 nits.
And last but not least nobody cares about having perfectly accurate colors at 1200 nits because the point is being able to see the screen at all. The colors don't look accurate on a perfectly accurate screen either cause it looks washed out. The point is visibility not perfect accuracy.

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2022Xperias have poor colour calibration. Can't rebut that... moreFirst of all in order to determine something as accurate it needs to be measured against something right? Much like how loud is really loud when it comes to audio. So starting position is the white point and white point is based in Kelvin D50=5000 D65=6500 D75=7500 and each of these has a different purpose. Photography is D65, graphics D50 and video D75. Xperia let's you change the white point and calibrate display yourself anyway you want it.

Let's put it like this. If my calibration method is based on D75 I'm pretty sure none of the Samsungs or iPhones would pass as color correct because they have been calibrated on the warmer side D50

Can't rebut that... moreXperia has similar calibration to BVM-X300 - 4K true RGB OLED reference monitor (with Sony Japan panel). One of the best on the planet. RAW numbers doesnt say everything about color mapping. I have tested many time Xperias (1, 5 and PRO-I) and I have checked outdoors how looks gras and tress on the display. Colors on the display (with camera launched) looks almost the same like plants/grass/trees in nature.
