glad that they waited for tsmc process...
now, 5 series will have an edge against 1 series again...
unlike on mark iii, 5iii is too much disadvantaged over 1iii...
so, another phone joined my shortlist - nothing phone (1), asus zenfone 9, google pixel 6a, and 5iv 🤩

How can be Sony fault if they didn't design to have a night mode at all. Non of Xperia 1 and 5 series don't have a dedicated night mode. You should know that before buying instead blaming Sony. Oh well experience cost and your cost you much more then it should and could. Be wiser next time and put on paper if needed things you need from a phone to must have.
    Peace out!

CompactPhones5ever, 23 Aug 2022Somehow, Sony fanboys always mention limited availability a... more"garbage software support"

And also garbage hardware support. Good luck on finding good service center for broken xperia.

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2022More than 30 markets is limited availability? Somehow, Sony fanboys always mention limited availability as the Sony phones' only disadvantage, even when it's not really the case. I assume it's meant somehow prove that they are not really fanboys, and since they cannot point out obvious disadvantages like garbage software support and horrendous cameras, they come up with these "well it's literally a perfect phone, literally the only problem is that there won't be enough of it for everyone" kind of BS.

Something like when an employer ask someone in a job interview for their weaknesses and they reply with "well sometimes I work too hard".

Argh! Should've waited for this than 5 III.

LucasN82, 23 Aug 2022It generates heat on camera because you got Continous Auto ... moreTHe camera sensors are the same as in previous 1 mark iii which did not overheat to the same extent as the mark iv.

Many users report that overheating improves when they turn on flight mode (all 2G/3G/4G/5G radios turned off).

So, the culprit of overheating is the way Sony deals with heat dissipation from the SoC (and the camera sensors).

And you got more than 300 Phase Detection sensors inside main CMOS sensor. You have no idea what you are talking about. Cheers.

Dude, 23 Aug 2022Did you buy the US edition directly from Sony?Yes, and I contacted support multiple times. After originally calling the XQ-BC62 a "US" phone, Sony changed to calling it a Verizon phone. Sony officially says it's an LTE phone on AT&T and T-Mobile

                      Sony disabled SA 5G for all US bands (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41, 66, 71, 77, 78). https://cacombos.com/device/XQ-BC62 There's no VoNR. There's no WiFi Calling. VoLTE barely works, and only on three carriers.

It was connecting to T-Mobile's NR 71 in NSA mode for a while but now T-Mobile seems to have banned it for misuse. (NR 71 is for SA 5G phones) It still shows "5G" even while it's rejected. Only the dedicated NSA 5G bands in dense urban areas work. There's no VoNR and it drops LTE constantly while moving. Phone calls are difficult.

US Cellular refuses service to recent Sony phones

I've never seen the 1 III manage better than GSM calls outside the US. It's 2G/3G data only. It can't even use 2G in stock form because the bloat and spyware consumes more data in the background than 2G is capable of.

The microSD card was crippled by Google updates and Sony has no workaround. If you run a data intensive app (camera RAW editor, offline map, bit torrent download) on the microSD card, the app will hang then the phone will reboot. The only workaround is to get apps from other stores so they can still access fast file APIs.

Overall the phone is a buggy, incomplete mess and Sony has shown little interest in fixing it. I think they fixed some broken settings menus since the A12 update, and that's about it.
                      Also, updates lag. https://xpericheck.com/XQ-BC62/23131371

While the Xperia mark IV line of Smartphones is hugely attractive for many reasons, they are a failed construction from a perspective of thermals.
It is well known that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 ist a power hog that generates massive amounts of heat. Nonetheless, Sony seem to have stuck to the same puny thermal compounds they used for their previous Gen xperias.
No wonder that lots of people complain about their xperia 1 mark IV overheating after just a couple minutes of camera use, in some cases camera /shut down after mere seconds of video recording due to overheating.
So, I really hope that Sony has solved this problem in the 5 iv - but knowing Sony's track record, I wouldn't hold my breath.

1700 nits is not achievable but at 1200 is with full white. Where as for 95% of users of the latest Sony devices that's only going to be 450-560 nits. On devices costing $1300-$2500.

And with the color accuracy you're just literally rambling mumbo jumbo. They are both extremely accurate with only a very tiny difference in calibration that most cannot notice.
Not to mention how many years it took Sony to finally get to that point. Cause up until a few years ago they always had a heavy deviation while samsung had accurate modes for the past decade.

What you will notice is literally double the brightness when you're squinting on a bright day.
Where as the $2500 Sony xperia pro is the dimmest of them all. Matching the brightness of the Galaxy S4 from 8 years before it. 450 nits. Which competent defeats its supposed "professional" usage as a camera monitor in any medium to bright day.
Let alone the weakest battery, cameras, last generation soc, etc.

Is Sony going to start providing more than two years of security updates? They are one of the worst companies for updates, even though their phones are amongst the most expensive. There's no point buy a Sony phone until they provide four or five years of updates like Samsung, Google, and others now.

I love the design of the Sony phones. But there is zero way I will ever get one, until they start providing updates for a lot longer.
