K1A, 04 Sep 2022Yeah it's a really great phone, a compact great phone ... moreExactly, Sony isn't Apple. While Apple makes their products well thought and balanced, Sony always missed something important, that's why they are constantly falling more and more down.

Kriegsherr, 04 Sep 2022Try once. Can't say about the xperia 5 but xperia 1 is... moreExtra tallness is pointless when 90% of content is using 16:9 or 18:9. Rather go for s22 6.1 inch with only 146mm tall

David, 04 Sep 2022I don’t think I’ll buy until Sony ditch the 21:9. This phon... moreYea judging by the battery life, it's very power hungry too. Normally phones with much smaller batteries achieve ~25h of 3G talk time. Maybe even less than 4000mah.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2022iPhone SE is better. Or the iPhone miniLOL what? It doesn't even have full hd screen. You can only the iPhone compare to something like Galaxy S03 Or or Redmi 11.

I truly miss the variable zoom telephoto camera, which should really make a comeback in the 5 V, but the one that actually drives me away from it is the chipset, so no, not this year.

p.s. Given the 1 IV uses the 8 Gen 1, it has already been certain that the 5 IV would only use the same chipset. Only the successor of the Xperia Pro-I (if any) may differ

Grey Wolf, 04 Sep 2022I like the display part (without holes or notches). I wish ... moreTry once. Can't say about the xperia 5 but xperia 1 is really awesome to use. The slender profile makes it eadier to hold and if you use it portrait oriented more, you would love it. Not everything these review websites say are true.

I don’t think I’ll buy until Sony ditch the 21:9. This phone is quite a disappointment, poor performing overheating old chipset and mediocre cameras that are actually a downgrade over last years model. Styling wise it looks cheap compared to the III, people will think it’s the 10 IV! Plus no charger or even CABLE really is a joke.

Own 5 II, it looks almost identical and has 3x optical zoom, doesn't overheat. For me, the price rise is not justified and will probably wait for 5 V with potential replacement.

Big fail on Sony's part. Sure, it can take some good photos but you can practically get the same quality these days for almost half the price! Not to mention, recent Xperias have this fantastic *feature* of overheating as soon as you start taking 4K video. Sometimes, the camera won't even start if you're out on a hot day lmao.

Grey Wolf, 04 Sep 2022Lol, no. iPhone SE3 and iPhone 12 mini are very bad phones ... moreYep. The battery on small iphones is kinda too low. Also iOS is not for me as I prefer Android. Maybe the new Zenfone is better option then

                          No I won't get one

Aside from being expensive, the screen is too small and too narrow to use, and if it easily overheat, it is a big no no especially there's 8+ gen 1 chipset out there which is better

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2022iPhone SE is better. Or the iPhone miniLol, no. iPhone SE3 and iPhone 12 mini are very bad phones in battery life. Good maybe for calling and messaging. And why would anyone pay 400-500EUR for a phone just for calls and messages? As soon as you do some medium-heavy tasks on them is game over. Half day battery phones at most.
iPhone 13 Mini is much better phone in battery compartment. But is also too expensive for a 5.4" phone. Everything is cramped on it. And that notch looks even uglier on that small display. No point in using phones with displays smaller than 6". Beats the purpose of having a smartphone in the first place, if I use it just for basic stuff each and there.
Is no wonder people said "No" to small phones.

i just love what they did with the display...
they used to have dim displays...
placing a wireless charger is another welcome improvement...
they only need to improve thermal control like what they are doing on 1 iv...
i would be checking out techview podcast and somegadgetguy as they usually do revisits on some phones, hopefully they will do it on 5 iv...

I like the display part (without holes or notches). I wish more companies will implement this design. But, I don't like Sony aspect ratio phones (tall and narrow). Also, Sony prices are very high compared to the software update policy they have. In comparison, Apple offers minimum 5 years and Samsung 4-5 years of software support.
Maybe for cheaper models, software support is not that important (2 years is enough). But, when you are paying 700, 800, 1000+EUR for a phone, 2-3 years of software support is not enough. With some luck, you can have that software support in a 200-250EUR phone.

iPhone SE is better. Or the iPhone mini

Honestly, for me in the US, they have to update the website regarding the LTE/5G bands because there's NO way they're randomly dropping band 71 when the Mark iii and even 1 IV has it.

MmWave is still a mystery but I'm still sticking with the above.

In terms of price, it depends on your needs. I couldn't care less about software updates and at least Sony isn't broken out of the box like certain other brands that can't apply a day 1 update. The fact that it's the only flagship brand to still provide expandable memory, headphone jack, and front-facing stereo speakers, it gives Sony the boost for a niche audience like myself. Call me stupid but I don't support brands that mock others while copying them (Google and Samsung) or remove features for no reason (Motorola; seriously, they don't have a cloud server or Bluetooth earbuds so why remove microSD card/headphone jack?).

"We’re not sure why Sony chose the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset to power the Xperia 5 IV."

                                      1) because the development starts at same time as 1 series. Single platmform is created and phones are developed based on it, each platform is based on a specific SoC.

                                      2) techsites should just ask them this, instead of trashing. Even if the 8+ was samsung semicon, many phones would use it anyway. None is using just because it is TSMC fab.
