I am still waiting for Sony (or other companies as a matter of fact) to release a phone with 24/25/50/100 FPS recording capabilities. So far, Sony and iphone are the only ones that can record at 24/25/60/120, but I also want 50 and 100 FPS. Until they improve the camera software, I won't be buying Sony.

Yeah it's a really great phone, a compact great phone actually.
The market is competitive, though. Sony is not Apple - at least not in this era - that people will buy anything it offers with any price.

I am really confused about the phones that GSMarena is comparing against the Xperia 5 IV since the price differences are considerable.

Cheaper than iphone X was in 2017.
Cheaper than Oppo Find X was in 2018 (not even NFC it has 🤣).
        Better than S22+.

But it is gonna be shadowed by the device to be announced in mid november.
Anyway, 1 iv is gonna have more units sold than this one as long as both are still made. Just like every year.

Nope you would have to be a complete simpleton to pay that outright for a smartphone, doesn't interest me one bit the design, I used to use Sony back in the day not today though.

Sony Xperia L4 was my last Sony and they left it on 9.0 and abandoned it with nothing more complete disgrace so I finished with them.

Nah, price is ridiculous. Besides, screen is too small, especially at 21:9.
Battery life seems weak too. 25h talk time means 3g/4g usage will deplete it fast too.

With Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 it would be worth buying, but with Snap 8 Gen 1 not.

It would be the perfect phone at this price ONLY if they provided 4 years of updates
