Weekly poll results: Sony Xperia 5 IV well loved, but overpriced

11 September 2022
The phone costs nearly the same as the Mark 3 did last year, but some choices by Sony don't quite justify the price tag, according to many voters.

Considering how much those featureless chinese garbage brands cost lately, the price for this phone is actually quite acceptable. Get a better job next time.

The thing for me is Sony are charging super premium prices on the back of the Sony brand but that brand means nothing in the Android / Phone world.
This is not TV or PlayStation or Camera where they still are a dominant force, they should charge in line with their market positioning or they will never increase sales to new consumers and expand the user base, eventually they will drop phones altogether.

I didn't get to participate in the poll, but it's really not the phone for me either. Personally, the 1 Mk.III makes more sense for the same, or lower, price. Older SoC, but it benchmarks better. My guess is that heat issues are causing that, just like the furnace that was the Snapdragon 810 in the Z5. Not really Sony's fault, but to add to that, the 1 III has more storage and RAM. It also has a better camera setup.
I do laud Sony for finally bringing Qi to the 5 series, but feel that the device was a misstep for not including the same cameras as the 1, and for the thermal issues.

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2022It's hard to talk about price since different countrie... moreCome to think about it, you may have a point about shipping tax and customs fees. I can't speak much for other countries, but the Xperia 1 Mk4 256GB is selling in my country for MYR 6,099, which is the equivalent of €1,349 and £1,169 as of September 2022. That's €50 and £130 lower than the ones sold in Europe and UK respectively.

I'll wait to see how much the Xperia 5 Mk4 will cost here in Malaysia. Last year's model with the only 256GB internal storage variant sold for the equivalent of €1,019 and £881. At the time of this writing, there is an Independence Day sales that bring the price down to the equivalent of €919 and £799.

maniac, 11 Sep 2022Nah...you haven't used an xperia?I never had an Xperia. I remember they were great and I wanted to buy one but I spent all my money on video games. I think the Xperia 10 IV is great and it looks great in mint.

The Japanese also prefer Apple, Samsung and Google.

I would add few more points proving why it's not worth it. Firstly, very limited availability around the world Abe bad service / support as a result. Secondly, absence of known hot chips thermal management. Thirdly, deliberate use of cheaper, underdog sensors while providing the best ones to the rivals. How silly is that!

I am a big Sony Xperia fan but I have been using the Samsung Galaxy S series snapdragon phones because they are value for money. I am not spending so much money for a device that will get only 2 years of support (and os updates).

Sony have to work with carriers in USA otherwise it wont get attention in big American market. Its really shame that apple and samsung have duopol in here.
And if they did that they would actually work to better tune their bands to let say T-Mobile eith their 66 and 71 band

As i said before this a bit better midranger than average one aint worth money Sony is asking for.
In this case even the Xiaomi K50 Ultra for 400 does and preforms lot better in most aspects.
At least dont comes with laughable charging speeds where 50% of the battery is toped in like 30 minutes and many else specs which are better comparing those two.
