Weekly poll: what do you think of the new iPhone 14 series?

11 September 2022
The two Pro models bring major upgrades to the cameras, displays and chipsets. Also, the Plus model can appeal to users who want a cheaper bigger phone.

Or how almost all flagship Android phones are either iterative updates like all the Galaxy S models or it's just throwing of biggest numbers one can possibly use and throw them at the product and hope it sticks well with people. All those?

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with doing iterative updates. This means products remain actual for longer and it's down to user to decide if there has been enough changes to be worth buying. No one forces us to buy any iPhone 14 model. I've decided I'll just wait and continue using my XR because vanilla iPhone 14 doesn't bring enough things worthy of an upgrade. Am I at any particular disadvantage? Not really. I'm still getting iOS 16 and iOS 17 for sure and by then I'll decide what to do next. This is only for people who absolutely want new model every year and they can't seem to be able to skip one, because reasons.

You only need Wi-Fi to set up iPhone 14 with e sim, which is ubiquitous even if you’re homeless. I haven’t had a computer in YEARS. If I ever need one I’d get an iPad + magic keyboard.

I wanted to buy the iPhone 14 Plus because of the rumoured 120Hz refresh rate on the non-Pro models but they kept the screen 60Hz. Oh well, I decided to get the Pro Max it's only a $200 premium but that's the case only if you live in the USA, everywhere else Apple has added an insane mark-up with their rationale behind it being the current dollar - euro exchange rate which is ridiculous because no other company jacked up their prices to this extent, some not at all.
I went to Samsung's site and saw them running a lot of deals so I picked up the Fold4 and with all promos applied I ended up paying about the same as the iPhone 14 Pro (the small one, non-Max version) would have cost. I prefer iOS to Android but not to the point where Apple can treat non-US customers like trash and still expect a sale. It's not just EU problem either, AUS and JPN had prices skyrocket for no reason, too.
Expensive products are one thing but scummy practices regarding exchange rate and regional differences is a great way to make people feel like they're getting ripped off. Ironically, I always criticized Samsung for a similar thing since the Exynos versions of their phones were always massively inferior to the Snapdragon equipped US and South Korean versions for the past few years but they finally decided to make the Snapdragon version global and gave Flip and Fold the S8+ Gen1 in all regions.

E sim only is dope! SIM cards are so fragile and take up needless space in the phone. Now I don’t have to screw around with SIM cards. Also the phone is 2 grams lighter! Awesome! Can’t wait for them to remove charging and go to full fast wireless charging

Bought an iPhone 14 from apple through T-Mobile. $865 total. Amazing price to performance. Android can’t come close. 120hz is worthless, I used a 13 pro max for a week and saw no use for 120hz. Currently using a vanilla 13 that I will be returning to Amazon for ~$800 when I get my 14 so I’m basically paying $65 for an upgrade. The fragmentation and bloatware is what has destroyed android in America. Apple is just too smooth, easy, and consistent. And now has tons of customization if you’re into that

So true, even this article already soon have over 100 comments, it's just that Apple articles gain all the traffic, no matter if you are Apple user or Android user you can't stay away, it's just shows the magic Apple have.

I think iPhone is iPhone. Doesn't matter what number or letter is added, it's still the same as before. Limited, controlled and expensive gadgets. Not even jobs' daughter approve it.

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2022Time to remove the charging port too. Go Apple! In about 3-4 years it would probably happen, once the wireless charging is effective enough to be the only variant. In 5-6 years the same from Samsung and then Xiaomi, BBK and others, once they are able to copy it.

The Motorola Razr 2019 was a Verizon-exclusive and has only esim. It annoyed the hell out of Mr. Mobile along with its outrageous price for midrange specs. If I traveled with an iPhone 14 Pro Max to the Philippines which prepaid sims is the most common, having esim will be a problem. I enjoy moving my sim to my other phones.

Android OEMs will only copy this and phones will only get worse and restricted like the removal of removable battery, headphone jack, microSD slot, IR blaster, FM radio, and charger in the box. Apple and Android OEMs will continue to remove useful features.
