Would Margrethe Vestager be able to name one better android map app than Google Maps, or one search engine better than Google Search..😀😀.

Anonymous, 16 Sep 2022Android is not owned by Google, it's only sponsored by... moreIn simple terms, Google owns Android. Google acquired Android Inc. So if you ask who owns Android? It's Google. But in complex, you are right. Google owns Android at the very core or basic. What most forget is that Android is open source. Even you or me can modify it. You can remove Google services in any Android phone. But then, would it be simple or make Android useful to the majority? No. That is why gms is pre-installed on all Android devices. Otherwise, it would be like Huawei. Even many Huawei users are trying to use Google. Without Google, Android is useless to the majority. If you don't have a gmail account, an android device is useless. But if you want, you can modify Android to your liking because it's open source. This is what people forget. You have options.

You know, smartphones aren't like computers that you plug in something and will have a new OS ready in minutes. One small mistake and forget your smartphone for once and for all. Even if you don't make any, it can't be done by everybody
In fact, it's just backdoor that exists to install any other OS on a smartphone, nothing officially.

"Point is Google forces you to use all its services. Either you use all services or don't"
As a matter of fact, they do force you to use all their services. Tell me a fin-tech app that will work without GMS and unlocking bootloader, rooting, etc.

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2022Actually Android does belong to Google.Android is not owned by Google, it's only sponsored by Google. Google owns the trademarks of Android's name and logo. Android is free and open source software licensed by Apache. Google apps are proprietary software provided by Google but are not necessary for Android to function. It would be ok if users were able to uninstall Google's proprietary software, but they can't. Users are forced into Google's ecosystem just to download software for their Android devices. This is the problem. Google has an inherent unfair advantage at monopolizing users.

At this point for mega corporations, fines are a part of their business models, if you make 20 billion and you have to pay a 4 billion fine you're still up 16 billion, so what does it matter?
