Flashback: Apple is slow to adopt new tech, but only on iPhones

18 September 2022
The 12" MacBook from 2015 was one of the first devices to adopt USB-C, the iPhones will be one of the last to do it.

There's no other way of explaining this when it comes to Apple. And it's pretty easy to prove: most iPhone users knoe nothing of their device. Its practically a sort of dumb phone for them. Some calls, some social media, some camera and thats it.

"Always On Display" is older than what this article mentions.

It existed way before even Android OEM jumped on it (when they started running out of ideas).

It was called "Glance Screen" and featured on several Lumias (920, 1020, 1520), Symbian Flagships (Nokia N8, E7, E6, 808) and I think it originated around 2009. The Nokia E71 had a quasy-glance screen prototype that showed the clock and notifications icons while locked and that was in 2008 (not to mention it had auto brightness, too, which was something the S3 mini didnt have in fkin 2013!!!!)

Surely, apple (i.e. iPhone) is not the first but it has a successful marketing to make all of this popular (and controversial?).
So, what the things apple (i.e iPhone) do, as the pioneer then? The glass, the design, etc.

It's the Toyota Camry of phones. Lasts for exactly 120 months, minimalist, and boring. It's always a strange contrast to the ultra-hyped sales pitches they get.

Don't forget wide-angle camera. LG G5 had it by early-2016. The iPhone 11 in 2019 finally got it. That took 3.5 years. Apple didn't include gesture swipes until 2017, or well over 8 years after webOS got it. BlackBerry got it by 2011 on their Playbook tablet. Nokia had AOD and double tap to wake years before Android.

dbjungle, 19 Sep 2022Didn't the Moto X have AOD back in like 2013 or something?it does. but, the nokia n95 did it first with TFT display
