Apple responds to why junkyard crash tests don’t always trigger iPhones’ Crash Detection

People are too dumb not to realize that it's nothing but a way to steal people's data. Whether or not it successfully defected a car crash, it certainly didn't fail to transmit your personal data (such as your location, destination, speed, what you're saying and whatever you're listening to etc) to apple servers before you crashed and died.

Since 2007, I haven't even had one car without this function: BMWs (built-in sim cards) and Citroens (you had to register your phone). In the meantime, every new car in Europa must come with this feature with a built-in SIM card and with sensors that work.
This is the gimmickiest feature ever built and advertised. And the worst thing is that as always Apple presented it as if no one else had built it into a smartphone before them. Google did it first which doesn’t make it less gimmicky. All the BS in their demo how it works is just plain BS to make it appear a very sophisticated feature. “the barometer can detect changes in air pressure when airbags are deployed”, aha, what if it is being wirelessly charged in the closed middle console of the car? Cars have actually hundreds of sensors to detect a crash for deploying the airbags which for instance would send S.O.S. messages including GPS coordination - reliably. And of course would establish a phone call to emergency servcies.
Apple - The marketing company.

rizki1, 01 Oct 2022do car manufacturers not have this feature? Some do have it preinstalled. But a phone can be on any car so yea. But yea some cars do. I believe tesla has it and most electric smart cars and i think that even some that arent EVs have it too. Ive seen on some normal gasoline car it would be a button. It would be called "SOS" and maybe some even auto call even if the "SOS" isnt pressed. Not sure but maybe theres cars like that out there.

For those that don't know, this article is not correct.
Google has had this feature for a number of years, it was first introduced into Google Maps, then later baked into PixelOS. Overall it is quite hit and miss (no pun intended) and not very optimised on Android.
Apple's implementation is actually better.
However the results of this experiment were flawed. That's because the feature only becomes activated after a while after you have been driving and the iPhone detects your movement is equal to a car (not bicycle or eScoot). They track your movement through many means, and detect the subtle vibrations that occur inside a car as opposed to the other vehicles I mentioned.
If you walk with an iPhone, it detects you are walking. If you place that into a junk car, it doesn't know it is inside a vehicle yet. If you crash that junk car immediately after, the feature still isn't active. All in all, the experiment was flawed. They needed to actually drive a real car around for a while, then crash it into a tree or something, and then show if the feature was working as intended or if there were issues.

Some modern car manufacturers like Mercedes Benz and BMW are already using this feature, which is more reliable than a smartphone. You may be keeping your smartphone in your pocket which cushions some impact and noise
