Mark Zuckerberg says WhatsApp is "far more private and secure than iMessage"

Whatsapp is indeed secure.
In rank of security. Whatsapp > iMessage > Telegram > SMS.
In terms of security I would say Whatsapp is on par with iMessage. Both are relatively as good.
In terms of getting JUNK messages. Telegram / SMS is the worse of the lot.
Telegram no end to end encryption unless you secret chat. So any security leak on their severs = your message in the clear. SMS the legacy.. same with 3.5 jack ... is never secure.

Calm down folks, He is saying message in transist is end 2 end encrypted. I don't think any other popular messaging service offers e2e on all messages except Signal.

I don't use WhatsApp, but people in the comments seem to really not understand how its encryption works. WhatsApp many years ago adopted the end-to-end encryption protocol developed by the open source secure messaging app Signal. This is widely considered to be the gold standard for end-to-end encryption. Apple, in contrast, uses a proprietary method for end-to-end encryption so no one knows how it works and independenct security researchers cannot verify whether it does what it says it does or look for bugs (this is considered extremely subpar).
So it is true that WhatsApp's encryption is much better that Apple's. It is also true that WhatsApp works across platforms, whereas when iMessage messages a non-iPhone, it uses regular SMS, which is totally insecure. On top of that, Apple's iCloud is not encrypted end-to-end. Apple holds the encryption keys to the iCloud and can and has turned over information to authorities, who provide proper warrants. Apple had a plan to end-to-end encrypt the iCloud, but the FBI pressured Apple not to and they dropped the plan. This is a big problem, because most people default to backing up their iMessages to the iCloud, so even though iMessages are end-to-end encrypted, if they are backed up to iCloud that essentially acts as a backdoor to iMessages and defeats the security.
So it is true that WhatsApp uses much better security and encryption than iMessages. On the other hand, WhatsApp is owned by Facebook and is used to track you and your data in other ways, even if Facebook can't read your messages. Of course, Apple tracks its users in all sorts of ways also.
The best solution is to use Signal. It also works cross platform. It is the gold standard for end-to-end encryption. And it is designed to have the least amount of information about its users as possible. It is also open source software (much better for privacy and security) and a non-profit organization (so they have no incentive to track people).

You can blame the original WhatsApp developers and owners for selling out half a billion people's privacy to enrich themselves instead of staying pioneers of privacy and messaging. Nobody forced them to sell to crooked Facebook.

Neither of those are safe. FB will sell your data, and only God knows what Apple does with iMessage, but it cant be good, either

Mark Zuckerberg can say it but that doesn't mean I'll believe it. That man has lost almost all his credibility

I edited the original message cuz it would be highly controversial. But either way. I did nothing wrong so yea. But like i said in the original. Just say something messed up and who ever gets in trouble is obviously lying about privacy.
