Apple iPad mini (2021) prices quietly went up yesterday

19 October 2022
The mini tablet costs the same as it did at launch in the US and Canada, but it suddenly got more expensive in Europe and Asia.

vexus, 20 Oct 2022Then we shall wait USD crash. See will they reduce pricing? 🤔In that case the price in US will increase and the price of other countries may be affected accordingly.

UltraHD, 20 Oct 2022And Galaxy S22 Ultra should cost 1300€? Or Xiaomi 12 Pro? D... moreYeah I remember when Galaxy S phones and newest iPhones went for €450 brand new, nowdays midrangers cost more.

Smartphone market lost the fun and charm the moment the innovation went away and we got less functionality for more money.

Gone are innovative functionality, quad-dac, micro sd, 3,5mm, replacable batteries, charging bricks, lower prices and so on

Heck even the sim tray (iphone 14 series in the US) and charging cables (sony) are next on the chopping block.

Last phone I had fun buying was my LG G8S, they went for €399 and you got a 3,5mm, micro sd slot, charger, earbuds (not crappy ones), case and even A CLEANING CLOTH with it.

        Yeah

Those times are gone: if Sony can get away with a phone and nothing more in box for €1399, and Apple and Samsung providing much of the same but with cable included (for now)

I see a sad future in front of me with smartphones.

And the worst part is that those things became essential for a lot of stuff in some countries, even if some people like me wish they didn’t and stay optional.

vexus, 20 Oct 2022Then we shall wait USD crash. See will they reduce pricing? 🤔When euro would rise back in value, Apple, Samsung and any other company would not lower the prices.

But if the US dollar would crash, yeah that would be fun for them and a financial disaster for the rest of the world, that was stupid enough to rely on dollar prices more than they should.

cyber, 20 Oct 2022europe got 100 euro slap,no other smartphone brand in my co... moreSo they did here

So did Samsung on their new and existing phones (€80 to €150 hike) and so did Xiaomi on their 12 series (€70 up to €130)

Only Google didn’t hike their price, but they have a specific agenda for EU to push Pixel sales.

Also Motorola didn’t hike the prices, but that’s them.

(forgot Sony with their €200 hike on the 1 IV here)

Every market got a different treatment.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2022People act like android manufacturers are saint. Nope ... moreDuring 2020, in anticipation of the worsening economic conditions, a lot of countries decided to print more money to give themselves a raise, and use these funds to help the industry. The problem is that the big business owners and essentially the rich get first dibs at this cashflow. That's why we saw historic rises in the stock markets and housing markets all over the world. Then this money trickles down to the people who need it, but by then it is very diluted.

The world was poised to enter a recession in 2019, and the pandemic just added fire to it, by decreasing economic growth, and increasing cash availability. However, the effects don't come into play until a few years. So things will get much worse in 2023, and they will stay bad for another 5-years until economic recovery happens. Then we'll peak, and rinse repeat.

Sounds like a bad plan, so why do we keep repeating it? Well, these economic booms allow the rich to get more money, convert that into assets cheaply, then have inflation run its course. In other words, for the top 1%-10% of the population it is great. It means adding an extra property to your portfolio and give to your kids, and to live an even more lavish lifestyle. And it's the same population of people who hold the power, and allow such policies to be in effect. Majority of people are much worse off, because they don't have influence on these policies. You can't vote for them. And if you could, the top three parties would be offering the same problem anyway. You've been dealt a bad hand, but it's all about how you play your cards.
