Anonymous, 22 Oct 2022when this non sense with benchmarks will come to an end? al... moreI wouldn't say all android's are inefficient, 870 is still very fast and efficient chip that's good for majority of the people, things started to go downhill after that tho 888 was a nightmare and well, less said about 8 gen 1 the better, at least the + variant improved efficiency and performance, hopefully this chip goes in same direction but with Qualcomm it's 50/50 if it will.

But yeah, these benchmarks should also include peak power consumption to show just how much power they need to achieve these speeds, it's like a car with good thermal efficiency and bad, they may produce same power, but other one can only do it because you are showing move air and fuel in, rather then you making it use more energy in its fuel.

when this non sense with benchmarks will come to an end? all flagships are fast.
When do we actually start focusing on efficiency because besides apple all android phones drain battery like hell. Only kirin was efficient but now US made sure is extinct.

Darknoor, 22 Oct 20228 RAM is still high, 6 being standardized slowly yet still ... moreAndroid uses RAM even when it’s not explicitly allocated to an app. For example, if you’re doing file transfers, they can be sped up by using your RAM as a cache. Like all modern operating systems, Android uses as much RAM as you have to accelerate things in general. As soon as a process needs that memory, it’s instantly released, but it’s never literally empty or unused.

Considering that many applications in Android run in the background, it’s also handy to have more RAM so that background processes can proceed smoothly, even if you’re using a RAM-hungry app (such as PUBG or Diablo) in the foreground. If you’re doing split-screen app work while listening to music in the background or downloading files, more RAM ensures things go off without a hitch

iPhones need less RAM to operate because Apple has less applications running in their background. They achieved that by simplifying the communication process of their devices. They only need one port to communicate with Apple’s server, instead of the multiple different ports for each application that Android has.

Eyephone uses more L3 cache, too save ripp milk it's customer, because cache memory is very cheap than Ram.

Aappleesss “push notification” system is independent and works like this: They have their own server which communicates with the application and then they send the notification from their server to you. The iOS does not allow the apps to take RAM size according to their preference and when you shut down any application, iOS automatically deallocates any memory that’s in use. As a result, fewer APPS run background processes and therefore, less RAM is required.
On the other hand, Android’s “push notification” system works like a computer system. In other words, each APP has its own background process which allows it to communicate with the user and directly send notifications from their server. Consequently, more background processes means more RAM is needed.
iOS is written in “Swift” while Android and its applications use “Java” which is known for recycling the used memory back into the system.
Apple has full control over iOS. They are aware of the needs that each application has in terms of memory and as a result, they make iPhones run efficiently. Google on the other hand doesn’t have that kind of control over Android devices.

Darknoor, 22 Oct 20228 RAM is still high, 6 being standardized slowly yet still ... moreas the number of application running at a time increases, the RAM memory required for running those applications becomes insufficient. Now even if the processor speed is the same as before, the loading ,access and execution of an application into the RAM takes more time than before due to high number of applications running simultaneously. Each application fights with other apps for allocation of memory in RAM.Each application has to wait for some memory to free up and only then it can execute its code. Thus the phone appears to be lagging and the speed is slowed down.
let's consider a phone having 2gb of RAM

When you run a number of applications simultaneously on a smartphone having more RAM, due to the availability of larger memory the applications can run smoothly as all of them have enough memory to load, access and execute the code required to run the application. The applications do not need to wait for accessing memory as there is ample amount of memory available with the RAM. Thus the execution of applications is quick and the phone appears to be running faster.

Therefore, the RAM of a smartphone must also be looked upon before buying a smartphone. larger the RAM, faster the phone.

Darknoor, 22 Oct 20228 RAM is still high, 6 being standardized slowly yet still ... moreAlso, Android apps are written in Java. What allows Java to run practically anywhere, including your washing machine, is the Java virtual machine. Think of it as a program which runs your Java programs. Virtual machine allows Java code to be run anywhere, as long as the virtual machine is installed. One downside of that, is that virtual machine uses much more memory than native iOS apps.

One more thing to note, it’s not all Android’s fault. Since Android is open source, any company can modify the operating system and ship their phones with the modified version. That’s essentially what Samsung and Huawei are doing. Since these modified versions have their own new features added, they also happen to use more memory.

Darknoor, 22 Oct 20228 RAM is still high, 6 being standardized slowly yet still ... morebecause android phones does not support virtual memory.A whole code must be in the main memory to be executed. But with virtual memory it allows a process to be executed that are not completely in the main memory. There are two implementations of virtual memory and these are 1.Demand Paging 2.Segmentation. In demand paging it uses Lazy Swapper where in pages are only loaded to the memory only when they are needed during program execution, in this technique you saved memory space. Thus, those devices that does not support virtual memory needs a bigger ram. Also, Android phones cannot support Virtual memory because its secondary storage are not that big enough to support it.

My previous Samsung note and my S22 plus heats up a lot of time even for simple video calls. I am not playing which never happened to my other brand of phone. We are buying an expensive phone and we expect a decent performance. If not, I'll never buy Samsung ever again. Waste of money for a crappy phone.
