The milky way photo looks impressive for a phone camera, albeit clearly unnecessary oversharpening ruins the image quite a bit. "Unnamed competitor" is iPhone, presumably 14 Pro Max - that's definitely the kind of splotchy mess my iPhone 13 Pro would produce when I don't shoot in ProRAW under extremely low light.

However, you at correct it uses much less sharpening. At very first glance that was something I noticed from these samples. It doesn't have that way over the top plastic artificial 100x sharpened look.
That's a breath of fresh air.
However it is still just as heavy on the noise reduction sadly. All fine details smeared away.

judging by the new release from the Chinese OEMs , I can say that it's only matter of time (approx 2 years or less ) before they dominate the phones markets , and I hope Huawei will take the cake for being good in software and hardware manufacturer that only need to be matured .

Zoom looks like hi res, upgrade finally after years. It's actually a wonder they got the best zoom on fold, but not on regular one. Now they will be at least on the same lvl as the rest in zoom.
May new lens and processing also help its yellow tint.

As someone who had the Vivo X80 Pro i have to say the following:
-Camera is Top-Notch, probably better than any phone atm.
-Software is one of the weak side, with many options to preserve battery life does not exist, no AOD options, no charge limit options, and some Android 12 omissions...
-Battery life and standby time are atrocious, this needs to be fixed in the next phone alongside better cooling( X80 has the awful SD8GEN1 with bad cooling).
-Updates were pretty much consistent as it is already on AD13.
To sum it up, camera should be a focus alongside with much better software and battery life.

Overall very good. I know we are not seeing original quality, but still good.
I like that they do not have an extremely aggressive sharpened look, but the samples still have a significant amount of noise reduction.

I'm a fan of night shots, and Vivo X pro plus series takes the cake. Y'all might love the ones with a tinier aperture, but those are good for day time shots. That's clearly not for me. The Vivo taking the night shot with the tree and the milky way above. OMG! It's so f'ing beautiful, literally heaven on earth!

The problem for me is the 23mm equivalent focal length of the main camera that is too wide, whereas 2x is too long, the if the x90 moves to a 1 inch sensor, the depth of field will be too shallow.

One of the best camera-oriented smartphone. Love their colors processing.
Since X60 series, Vivo are very serious when it comes to camera.
