30 October 2022
The winner of the browser wars tried to tackle the smartphone market, but that was a war it lost. From its ashes rose a new OS that now powers millions of phones.

Roger P., 03 Nov 2022Xiaomi qin f21/f30 and Xiaomi qin f21 pro are right now tho... moreWe need better brands to build better specced models against those. By "better" I don't mean that Xiaomi is bad per se but their insistence w/ going w/ that "Google apps 2nd" route for these Qin line is annoying, as in there's no proper international models w/ ALL the bands and apparently ones w/ GMS are resellers' dependent.

I like the Qin F22 Pro but would have been preferable if the screen is proportionately half an inch larger w/ keys just reduced by mms to offset.

And scale won't be, until htere are drivers to make the OS competitive with Android. I fancied chinese brands would use the opportunity when HUWAEI got issues and would start a cooperation, but apparently not even they want to invest. I know, the App ecosystem. But a compatibility layer for Android apps should not be such a huge deal? GOOGLE won't possibly run Android forever...

Web based OS is a good idea, it is a pity that it did not become mainstream. Looking at Android and iOS, the number of apps needed in the phone is horrifying, every single little function needs app downloading and updating. Apps is like inflation, it will be getting higher and higher and never go down.

I bought a 8110 4G as a second phone but it lagged most of times. The processor choice was poor from Nokia or perhaps the OS wasn't well optimised. It had good battery life tho but everything else was awful. Nokia adorning it with ancient specs didn't help much either so I sold it and got an android phone

I bought a KaiOS-powered Nokia feature phone thinking that it'd be great as a digital detox tool. Frankly speaking, it's a complete waste of money. I ended up getting myself a secondhand Windows Phone device (the Microsoft Lumia 950 to be precise) and it's a much better digital detox experience than KaiOS.

That is why we're still not seeing mobile Linux going mainstream despite having the likes of Purism Librem 5 and PINE64 PinePhone/PinePhone Pro.

"Had a Xiaomi and it was so bad that I bought my first iPhone 2 months into ownership. It was the worst phone I have ever used. Ads everywhere , full of bloat and very unreliable MUI skin. Never buying their rubbish again ."
