The winner of the browser wars tried to tackle the smartphone market, but that was a war it lost. From its ashes rose a new OS that now powers millions of phones.

    I was rooting for Ubuntu Touch, their mobile OS. It's not dead yet, but I wanted it to succeed.

Wave 2 didn't really bring any upgrades like one would expect, and that was the final nail in it's coffin, though samsung probably already knew the platform isn't going anywhere. But the first Wave had some small aspects that were even better than Android (just like today some features in OneUI are not even on native android).

        Kai is sucks . Slow and bad battery backup .
        Old Nokia S40 or Symbian can run Faster than this so call new os .
        Evan with Big funding and new hardware kai os phone cant run Faster than old Nokia S40 and Symbian phone .

            Spotted an issue: The Go Flip V runs an AOSP based OS, not KaiOS. Check Alcatel and Verizon website.

                Tizen could work but for some reason samsung never took much risk with bada and tizen both.
                They just had to release a flagship with promise of 6-7 years update.

                        Android for phones and windows for laptops. Nothing else needed.

                          I wish we could actually have privacy in any of these OS'es. Not only from people, but from companies who built them.

                          I'm making a prediction: Android, Windows and roughly any cancer out there will never be safe, even in 2040, they'll keep getting security updates forever. FOREVER.
                          Now, you're free to quote me in 2040 and tell me if I'm wrong.

                            the old forums and maybe downloads should still be up. you could put sailfish, ubuntu touch, android, and firefox os on a nexus 5 if you're feeling crazy. can't remember how to multiboot, though

                              Almost, but not quite: That second naming conflict was with another open source project / product, not a company. The Firebird SQL database, the open source continuation of one version of Interbase, that Borland (or was it called Inprise at the time?) briefly opened before later making it proprietary again.

                                feel the need to state that since the next thing is nitpicking over how android isn't open... at least not actually. and that's without even getting into the actual black boxes that are android phone modems

                                  kaiOS will die too because not just google service no longer supported but whatsapp refuse to release in latest version of kaiOS 3.xx.

                                  most of device stuck at 2.4 or 2.5 or 2.6 and dev refuse to update it to latest 3.x because there's no incentive for them. same goes to whatsapp
