The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Explorer sets a new benchmark for fast charging - 210W

27 October 2022
Save for the faster charging and different battery capacity, the Explorer is identical to the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ (yes, including the 200MP camera).

I was one of the first adopters of this so called fast charging battery tech when it was new all the way back in 2016 or something. My phone arrived with around 20W charging speed and a bundled fast charger. I was hyped about it. But just under 24 months the battery was toast on that. Now imagine what can 210 watts do to the battery

It's not enough. I want a phone that I can fully charge in 2 seconds!

I still remember cases of Samsung Note 7 caught on fire while charging with 15W years ago due to poor quality control. OEMs have learned from the Note 7 incident.

blue, 28 Oct 2022It is not safe, the battery heats way too much, no matter h... moreNo, it doesn't. Not more than, for example, in heavy gaming. This super fast chargers are built to take that heat, that's why the chargers heat up more than the actual phone.
If it wouldn't be safe, we would have seen only explosions and degraded batteries everywhere. Super fast charging phones have been around since 2-3 years already and no major problems occur.
Probably it will be another 2-3 years until skeptics like yourself, will understand and accept the benefits of a super fast charging phone.
For myself, even though now I have a relatively slow charging phone (Galaxy S21 FE), I am planning to sell it and buy a 65-120W charging phone. After that, I will never buy another slow charging phone (especially iPhones or Pixel phones, which are super slow charging).
It was similar discussion in the past, when they change from 5-10W charging to 20-30W charging. Skeptics said the same thing back then (especially Apple fanboys, said that 20-30W charging damages your battery). Now everybody accepts 20-30W charging as being safe.

Battery degradation depends on lot of factors

Because I usually charge my phones in the 20-85% range, 210W would be wonderful as it will only take at most 5 minutes to get from 20 to 85%. For those wanting to extend their phone battery's lifespan a little further, you can always use the ubiquitous 10W or 18W charger. Heck, use 5W if you like overnight charging.

My point is having option for both super fast and slow charging is better than being stuck with only slow charging. I really cannot fathom "fear the fast charging" mentality among some people here. We are given choices and not forced to use the super fast charging.

A shame peoole still believe that fast charging kills the battery. Its the heat that reduces the lifespan of the battery. The engineers at xiaomi must have done countless test to ensure that battery temp is safe with the new charging technology. Honestly i feel that rather than the battery being the first to die and explode ,the charger that came with it will be the first explode. I'll not be surprised if the charger reaches more than 50 degrees

The configuration of the phone is a big let down. Instead of charging speed. We would like to have a better processor.
