Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 unveiled: faster, more efficient, with ray tracing and Wi-Fi 7

There are performance improvements on all fronts, but Qualcomm stayed focused on efficiency. There are also AI and modem improvements.

And the 8+ Gen 1 is about 10 times more powerful than a 360 if you're going off tflops.

Any performance gains that don't involve efficiency gains are just gonna result in a borderline burning phone and horrible battery life. That's what happened with the 888 and 8 Gen 1.

          SoC manufacturers do not need to "calm down with the push for higher performance", they need to push for higher performance by improving their architectures. Right now they're just being cheap bastards.

            If you can't beat the competition, add ray tracing.

              Ray tracing? Why? This chip would need to be over twice as efficient/powerful as the 8+ Gen 1 to justify including it. We're at least 5 generations behind where it should start being implemented in phones. This is just gonna be a gimmick. I mean you know even the claimed 35-40% improvement crap is just bs already. They're never honest about that, we always end up having to wait for benchmarks.

              I'm not against the idea of ray tracing in phones, but the focus right now should be on better architectures. Ray tracing is just a waste of resources atm.

                Guess no candies for Samsung this year .

                  Personally I would rather have proper optimization n stability rather than just raw processing power. What's the point to have crazy blazing speed when can't even sustain 10 mins of gameplay before throttle kicks in... I'm pretty sure majority will play games more than 10 mins...

                      I would like to see going forward more on the games and it's graphics but that wont happen fast as they still need to support middle and budget range. Same with PC games that are hold back cause of consoles like playstation and xbox as all games need to run on these specs for that 7 plus years that one generation of consoles are out as games are at first made for console and then converted to PC.

                              SoC manufacturers can calm down with the push for higher performance for now. They should prioritize efficiency first instead of going for number-crushing figures that mean nothing when the SoC is already throttling.

                                        Real world use most times don't even Mac out GPU performance so that point is irrelevant
