A small chip (not overclocked) which already has a heatpipe on it, won't burn the large surface area of a metal back plate. Not enough to cook your palm. If they put graphite pads too, then you won't find it much warmer than your body heat.

The improved 'drop resistance' makes the screens scratch more easily since they are made softer so as no to shatter upon impact. That's why many of the newer phones with GG Victus screens scratch much easier than older phones with previous generations of GG.

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2022Right but according to "planned obsolescence" rep... moreA metal back wouldn't be feasible for modern phone design because of the significant increase in the amount of heat recent high-end SoCs produce, meaning with a metal-clad phone you would be burning your entire palm if you ran any intensive tasks on it while holding it. Nowadays phones use the metal frame to dissipate the heat, whereas the glass panel helps keep the back cool enough to touch (but at the same time glass doesn't trap the heat as readily as plastic does). A combination of a metal frame + a glass back is a totally sensible material choice.

Even after so much improvement, it still scratches at level 6, just like phones from 5-6 years ago, or even older.

They should just concentrate on hard to shatter. Then provide users with screen protector for the scratches.

Rotciv Ikias, 30 Nov 2022If it was so easy it could have been done It was done, Vertu phones had Sapphire displays but obviously very expensive. I would prefer if all screens were non laminated, I would rather have the small display gap and an easy repair, it never bothered me on old phones.

No matter the screen resistance screen protector is needed if you want to keep your phone as new. And phone case too.

Bigmeme, 30 Nov 2022We need sapphire screens not these gimmicky glassesThey tried to grow synthetic sapphire for smartphones, but the company was shutdown as the yield was very low AFAIK.
Natural sapphire is outrageously expensive that it is not an option.
