Corning unveils Gorilla Glass Victus 2 with improved drop resistance

30 November 2022
Phones have gotten larger and heavier over the years, which means that the glass has to be even tougher to survive drops on rough surfaces like concrete and asphalt.

I have the Victus on my S21+ and although it's VERY resistant against big drops, it gets scratched from bs stuff like my keys or random coins. How about solve that first instead of big drops that happen rarely

What if it "accidentally falls" hard to the wall?

The GG3 has superior scratch resistant comparing to newer generations. You won't be throwing your phone or dropping your phone anytime in a while, I could reckon, but I'm sure most of you guys put phones inside pockets with keys or coins, and that's when the scratch resistant comes in handy.

Glass breaking is inevitable. Focusing on having a scratch resistant screen would atleast ensure a good experience until it breaks. By making such weirdly complicated structures, repairability goes for a toss

We need sapphire screens not these gimmicky glasses

Let me guess: this will be in the S23 Ultra?

Corning makes these claims every time they release a new version of their glass but they all fail right on first drop on the floor

I think your eye, for some reason, cannot see where my eyes would see dozen of scratch :)

I wonder how these ppl get scratched phones without letting fall on the ground.

Instead it will possibly starts at level 5 this time, because of the increased crack resilience.
I see many victus glasses covered with micro scratches, which is super annyoing.
And having to add another glass should never be considered to be a normal thing.
The glass itself should be able to do the job.
                          In particular on premium smartphones.
It would be great if Corning would invent a material that is as drop proff as victus and scratch proof as GG5 at least.

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2022Dear Corning: STOP WITH THE DROP PROTECTION Any glass c... moreThis so much. I don't care about drop protection, it'll shatter sooner or later either way. Scratches happen all the time and I rather have a display where you only get micro scratches that are hardly visible even under ideal light than have phone full of deep scratches that look horrible after just few days of use, let alone years. Hell, I'd gladly pay few € more for sapphire display just to have great scratch resistance. And synthetic sapphire is manufactured on such large scale it doesn't cost hundreds of € anymore over regular glass.

easy replacable glass is better imo than 1 expensive glass which will be rare to find new. also not to mention it will be hard to fix.

i bet when jerry does his testing it will still scratch at level 6 with deeper groves at level 7

Dear Corning: STOP WITH THE DROP PROTECTION

Any glass can break, I have even see broken sapphire screens on a regular watch.

Instead make it more scratch resistant, because phone screen scratch so easily they look worse than a cutting board for food.

I remember older GG being much better on that regard and I gladly see THAT back instead.

another marketing gimmick for companies to put in their notes... boriiiiiiiiiiiiiing!

I would still put a screen protector, no matter how ,,strong" those Victus glass are.
