Weekly poll: is the Xiaomi 13 Pro your next flagship? What about the vanilla Xiaomi 13?

18 December 2022
Both are Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones, but the Pro stands out with its Ultra-like camera with a 1" sensor. The vanilla phone is smaller than any other 8 Gen 2 device out there.

Xiaomi 12 pro doesn't have so good battery life time ,but after update to 13.2.4 the battery life it's way better ,also the camera software it's better.

YUKI93, 18 Dec 2022I'll wait for a camera comparison between the 13 Pro a... moreI think the Xiaomi 13 pro is more competing with the Vivo x90 pro rather than the Vivo x90 pro+ for cameras. The camera hardware is very similar to the Vivo x90 pro. The x90pro though has a larger aperture with the imx989 and also their own V2 isp so in theory it may have a slight advantage for the main sensor. Other sensors are of similar quality too. All other specs are similar apart from the Xiaomi 13 pro has a better screen but the Vivo x90 pro is cheaper in China so it has a price advantage (and also has USB3.2 and better international band support if importing) . The Vivo x90 pro+ has much better camera sensors for ultrawide and zoom than the Xiaomi 13 pro or Vivo x90 pro+ so it should be much better than these two for the ultrawide and zoom (it is miles ahead of the Xiaomi 13 pro for zoom in Chinese comparisons which is to be expected). The vanilla 13 has the same main sensor as the honor 70 (imx800), not the x90. The x90 comes with the VCS imx866 bionic spectrum sensor. It's an improved version of the imx866 from the x80. They claim noise is reduced by 20% compared to the original imx866. The x90 also has the v2 isp though so it's not relying exclusively on the dimensity 9200 for image processing

What good is there with 1inch sensor if its quad bayer? You lose benefits on both sides of this sensor.

Resolution: useful resolution is only 12mp, so you don't get much detail. Demoasicing is worse than actual 50mp resolution.

Dynamic range: low pixel size due to quad bayer. It doesn't matter if it's grouping 4 of same colour pixel into one to create a "larger pixel". Dynamic range depends on individual pixel size (which determines light per pixel).

So lose best of both, while gaining gimmick of 8k and "50mp"

While I do like the camera, I still cannot like MIUI. It can be really buggy most of the time.

Gizmochina's sample images didn't impress me. But honestly with Xiaomi, MIUI is always the issue for me. The recent price creep on global versions didn't help either.

TheFoneBear, 18 Dec 2022> is the Xiaomi 13 Pro your next flagship? Nope. Xiao... moreHonestly I think updates to MIUI aren't even that bad for a non-Google phone, but MIUI is just not good. MIUI 14 should help with the bloat apps and there is finally a toggle to enable permanent notifications (on the lock screen I assume). But will it fix the over aggressive power saving and background data restrictions. I doubt it. I can't see myself using MIUI daily until the defaults for these things are like plain Android or there is a global toggle for each one of these annoyances.

I'm all in for 1 inch sensor. But that 13 tho. Such a great sized and complete smartphone. Makes with the right weight too. Hopefully we get lighter 1 inch sensor, triple camera smartphone.

None of the above for me..

Nope. Waiting for the 13 Ultra (or 13S ultra) because proper zoom sensor is needed to compare with S23 Ultra.

I voted no because the focal length of the main camera at 23mm is too wide, I prefer around 27/28mm of the pixel 2-6a or Huawei
