Daemon Targaryen, 20 Dec 2022Sony Xperia ZR from 2013 was also water-resistant and had r... moreI recommend you to travel around in the world. 1 single raindrop could ruin a phone without weather sealing. Even sweat from your body could give moisture damage to the phones. That's why they started to give them protection, as in weather sealing. I sometimes use 960fps slowmotion in shallow water, to capture stuff in slow motion. I don't need to run to cover if the phone rings while I'm outside and it's raining. But ok, why wear raincoats, when we lived 9 months in water. No need for such useless stuff, right? Poor Asians who has monsoons and heavy rain. With your logic, they should live without phones.
But the big question is, why was it possible to make units with replaceable batteries and back cover and still have weather sealing. When it's impossible now. Back then, the batteries even had 12 months warranty. Now it's only 3 months. While the phone itself has 12-24 months warranty. All depending on what the shop pays for.

This won't solve the battery issues in majority of cases. Almost always replaced batteries would never perform like the battery which you got while the purchase of the device. My guess is manufacturers orders a certain number of batteries while the launch its-self, and these batteries age and degrade while long storage and becomes useless by the time we purchase then.
Also there may be deliberate inferior quality
manufacturing by brand to reduce the life cycle of the device.

If the United States doesn't bring back removable batteries, I just may have to import all my phones from Europe.
This reminds me a little of playing ROMs in PAL over NTSC. F-Zero GX is better played in 50 Hz than 60 Hz. Less power to push. Smoother gameplay.

Surely, my battery feels weak, could be whatever, but I won't replace it because it's hassle.
It's also getting more costy to do it. With phone getting cheaper and more useless at once, it ends It's life cycle earlier.
Not ro mention tablets, mine old one goes for 70euro, even if battery was free, cost of replacing it will be high. May as well become an e waste. And that's old tablet, imagine how long will it be till you need that in real life - it needs to be done sooner.

I don’t want to go back to the days ... moreNon-removable back provide for simple design, better water resistance and lowers costs of production, and makes device sleeker and thinner, althou that is just a personal preference. IDK why people keep clinging on old trends when it comes to tech

What companies should work on, is battery that lasts for years without degradation or very little if any

This is terrible news. I don’t want to go back to the days of phones dismantling and spreading their insides all over the floor when they fall. I also like not having to directly touch the toxic batteries.
The planet is doomed anyway, so why bother? Let us enjoy our devices!

also bring back physical keyboards and number pads... why not since we are at it...
most people can replace their batteries once in 4 years easy... and if you are arguing as a quick power argument... recent phones are charging at 210w full battery in 9 minutes (Redmi note 12 Discovery)

This is really the only time I'd be down for plastic backs again. Not only you can replace battery, since back is removable, even if it scratches, you just buy new back and replace it. Reminds me of Nokia 5530 when all of it was a problem (painted plastic back and case), but you could replace battery and worn out case to make phone feel like new again.

Would likely increase the supply of aftermarket OEM batteries. Am already today replacing non-removable batteries on my phone but sometimes have a hard time finding good spare parts from reputable sellers.
