I'm still using the redmi note 5 AI that I bought early 2018, with original battery, only need need to charge 2~3 times per week with light use.
Keeping the battery around 30%~80% is optimal for battery longevity.

Rosso, 20 Dec 2022The "charging speeds cause batteries to degrade faster... moreAndrei F ( former Anandtech, currently at Qualcomm) claims he has seen the Tüv certification of a chinese OEM about its fast charging technology (you can check his twitter).
OEM claims N cycles of lifespam (usually 800) when charged at X speed (super fast), but according to him, the docs show battery was tested at 10W and not even inside the device. There are even photos of the test posted there.

This will be nice; Android did it and it worked out well for them. Instead of having to find your nearest Apple Store during the freezing winter months, you can just order a replacement battery for your phone, and, if you really wanted to, increase the battery capacity (Not Recommended)

It's EU's middle finger to Apple yet again. I love it but I also can't leave iPhone because the United States is full of Apple zombies. I came to this realization that I need to carry an Android and iPhone or I'll be at a distadvantage if I'm using only one.
So much easier sending gifs to my family and friends via iMessage than Android. And my social circle doesn't use WhatsApp or Viber. It's not cool that Apple's popularity pushes us to use iPhone but what can we do? I agree with what Casey Neistat said on SuperSaf's recent vid.
With iPhone 15 getting USB-C and possible sideloading apps via third-party app stores on iOS17, this almost makes iOS a skin of Android. They're becoming so similar, it makes them both a lot easier to use together.
That's the key. Use two phones like a lot of techtubers. I personally use two phones with a sim in each one but I have another 3 to 5 phones near them in case I need to recharge one of them. Enjoy the best of both worlds.

notafanboy, 20 Dec 2022to the majority of people, yes they are.Whether you use it or not, it doesn't hurt you to have it, so given the amount of people that would still value those features, I don't even know why it's an argument. Most people who buy a phone without a headphone jack buy it cause they don't see another option, not because they don't want the feature. My whole family is iPhone users and they're all fed up with dongles to use their wired headphones. However, they don't have a choice. There's a huge difference between not wanting a feature, and not having a damn choice about it because companies want you to buy their earbuds.

Apple will not sell in EU then. They make more money with non user replaceable battery, App store and lightning port.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2022This won't solve the battery issues in majority of cas... moreWhat are you taking about?
All this will do, if this legislation is passed, is generate a whole new market for third party batteries. At a cheaper cost, and more beneficial to a consumer in the long term.
Also, people will lose battery anxiety, as they'll be able to carry around spare batteries, which is safer from a security and safety perspective (especially if they have no access to power points/chargers while traveling).
The argument in defense of restricting access to a consumable element is utter idiocy.

Idea. Have an easily removable back cover, then have a sealed off chamber. The chamber will house the motherboard, charging port, sim tray, sensitive components like that. The battery will be waterproof, and have a waterproof connector. (Think deeper than usual 3 prong connector with a tight rubber gasket) This way the phone can still be waterproof, but also allow easily removable batteries. User repairable, yet durable and functional.

This would be bad. I prefer a 5000mah non replaceable that will perform like a 3500 onu three years later than starting with a 3500 that I will have to pay extra to replace every 18 months while also loosing water and dust resistance

Spanky, 20 Dec 2022This is terrible news. I don’t want to go back to the days ... moreA pretty asinine redundant comment.
You do know, Apple set the trend for non removable batteries as a way of forcing customer retention/post sale reliance as a means to generate additional revenue.
Needless to say, other manufacturers immediately latched on to the trend all in the name of revenue. (I.e. ripping consumers off)
If you're happy to be ripped off financially, then more fool to you. Us intelligent people don't tend to have this type of sentiment.
Batteries degrade with each charge. There is now way around it. Paying £600+ for a high end phone, as consumers generally do, is essentially paying £600 to use a phone for a specific temporary period of time until the degradation of the battery manifests. Therefore essentially placing a "Time limit" on a device - then forcing the consumer to repeat the cycle of either purchasing a new handset, or paying a high end cost to "replace" a part. A part that is a consumable.
Batteries are CONSUMABLES.
You wouldn't buy a car if you couldn't change the tyres, batteries, bulbs etc. You wouldn't buy kettles, fridges, washing machines, PC's, Laps etc etc if plug fuses couldn't be changed.
Why should a consumable element & its accessibility be restricted and limited on smartphone/laptop batteries? If you're stating this is to do with the "looks" and "design", then this takes superficiality to a whole new retarded level.
Anyhow, I'm all for the return of removable batteries. This should be a very basic consumer right for all digital products which contain consumable elements.
