New EU legislation can bring back user-replaceable batteries

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2022The problem with phone batteries is they start to wear out ... moreThe "charging speeds cause batteries to degrade faster then ever" is a myth, companies have standards on how many cycles leave how much battery health, if they kept slower charging, they would just make it fit that standard regardless, the battery degradation would be exactly the same.
So if anything, these faster speeds are better for consumers, because you can use a slower charger which will degrade a battery less then it would if that was it's maximum speed, since it's built for higher speeds.
Only negative of fast charging is capacity, and while it's becoming less and less of an issue (Xiaomi 12T has 5000mah battery despite 120w charging for example), it's still is somewhat of an issue.
Personally I think 60-ish watt charging is perfect middle ground for battery capacity and speed.

I think this is GREAT news because if EU can push Apple to switch to USB-C with the iPhone, they can influence more OEMs to bring back removable batteries.
Understand that if you eliminate things like headphone jack, microSD slot, and removable batteries, it eliminates other OEMs that make those things. The industry shrinks. That means lesser jobs. Sennheiser still makes wired headphones. There could be a brand like Energizer, Duracell, or Panasonic that can manufacture a battery that lasts longer than what the OEMs puts in their phones.
By removing features, the greater the unemployment because those third-party companies aren't needed any more. This also gives the user a lot more options instead of being shackled from what a company like Apple wants.

Well, as long as they keep water resistance, glass backs and good looks, I am all for user replaceable batteries.
Otherwise, if it would come at cost of those things, I would rather then force makers for easily replaceable batteries, ones that don't have 10kg of adhesive that can glue elephant to the roof, not to mention now batteries are deep in the phone, while before they would be first thing you could remove.

The IP rating argument was used against replaceable battery and then against microSD slot and then headphone jack. Truth is none of those need to be compromised for IP rating, just look at Xcover 6 pro! Scamsung they may be called, but no scamming in that one phone!
The greedy nature of these OEMs and those idiots who go around posting comments like "who cares about microSD and headphone jack in 2022?" are the cause of this dire situation. If this continues we'll soon lose USB-C port.

The headphone jack and sd card slot don't interfere with the phone's water resistance so you don't have to sacrifice it to get them back

For anons in here talking out of their butts about how something cant be IP67/68 and have a replaceable battery, I shall list well known examples:
>Galaxy S5 (and all its variants, including the Mini)
>Any professional camera with IP67/68 protection
>Galaxy XCover line
So yes, it can be done. Chinese OEMs just dont even try ,because seriously, try even finding a replacement part for any of those devices without getting a fake part instead or something that was meant for another similar in name model.

So now each model will come with all kinds of battery shapes, with insane prices quoting innovation expenses. Just declare a chewing gum as standard battery size. Stack them as needed.

Funny how the far-right club of Apple and other companies still pushes against it because of "innovation". Phones at this point are probably irreplaceable infrastructure, and thus need to be heavily regulated. Headphone jacks and replaceable batteries being mandatory on all phones would be great for everyone. And it wouldn't prevent manufacturers from putting the SD 8 Gen2 or any other flagship CPU inside!
