20 December 2022
The provisional agreement covers everything from phones, through electric scooters to EV batteries and will require recycling and free collection of old batteries.

EU is really doing some things right. While they are at it, they should also enforce possibility for user to increase phone memory with microsd.

If you use the usb c for headphones then you can't charge your phone at the same time if you wanna use headphones
The jack and sd card slot were removed because the companies realized they have fanboys who will defend them no matter what so they got greedy and wanted to cash in with their wireless headphones and cloud storage, they need to be put back in their place

PhoneAddictedTR, 20 Dec 2022Now it is time for Eu to pass a new law for Micro-SD and 3.... moreAll phones have a 3.5mm jack. It's called the USB c port. There is no way they will pass a law so that consumers would save 3 Euros on an adapter.

Micro SD and removable batteries is way , way, way more serious of a problem. In fact they are actual problems meant to hasten the replacement of phones.

Nobody ever replaced his phone because of the lack of a 3.5mm hole (just buy the damn adapter and be done with it). It was always a ridiculous complaint, given how easy its fix were.

Demon Slayer, 21 Dec 2022I liked LG's approach with the G5 by sliding the botto... moreHonestly for me the easiest would be just having screws. It can hold everything like the motherboard down if its long enough. If the battery expands its easy to remove the back cover without having to rub the battery's outer wall with a sliding back cover. OR instead of screws. Something like a tiny screw sized rod with different diameters inside the phone so you could just pull it out (or unscrew) like a watch crown to release the back cover.

Anders, 21 Dec 2022Cloud storage is less secure and if you don't have any... moreExactly. That is why I still deeply value microSD card support. The flexibility of having additional storage when you are in places with little to no internet coverage is still there. After all, not everyone is going to bring an external hard drive all along.

Anonymous, 21 Dec 2022Obviously has to be newly manufactured and preferably sold ... moreand how do you tell the battery is newly manufactered? with the amount of batteries model, you expect manufacturer to still produce the battery model after the phone is released 3 years ago? They could, but will not be cheap due to tiny scale of economy.

Also working fine doesn't mean battery has not degraded, the "new" battery might just be 80% of the designed capacity due to degradation. This would be much worse if the battery was poorly built that doesn't even match the capacity of the original.

IMO, there should be fixed dimension (x inch for 4000mAh, y inch for 3000mAh, etc) & specifications for batteries and batteries should have a standard like the AAA batteries so that it can be used across multiple devices.
Good move. Should be a global standard.
