AnonD-1058210, 11 Jan 2023Like what is the point of this product ?Try using two apps differently on a foldable phone. I have both Z Fold3 and Surface Duo 2, and the Z Fold3 really cannot split two app well together. No such problem for the Surface Duo 2 as they have their own independent screen. I'm already putting my Z Fold3 for sale and I'm keeping the Surface Duo 2 as my daily driver.

Looking back at the reviews, I think there is a place for a dual screen phone that basically mimics a dual monitor desktop set up. Unfortunately, it isn't the most innovative phone/tablet form factor.

I hope MS uses LG's Real Folding Window. LG had a lot to say about the advantages of their foldable panel vs. glastic panels. I would like to see if it lives up to the talk. The teardrop hinge leaves a minimum crease, but it has limits. The smaller you make the hinge, the more visible the crease becomes. The Oppo N2, Honor X2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 all have more visible creases. They are better than the Z but still a step backwards towards creaseless. I think a better panel will help resolve this issue and based on their presentation, LG's panel might be the solution.

You may not find the 7 inch 2015 Sharp SH-06G on this site but if you research it, that was the closest best form factor I have experienced as a go-in-between the smaller phone form factor and the mini tablets (which are a rarity now). Too bad that device stopped on its second iteration and never got any updates beyond Android 5.1.

The carriers don't want 7-8" devices with calling and data ...therefore these devices exist-agree no point in these foldable devices. For people hooked on endless notifications and screen time, the display will stay open and only fold when on the go. The 7-8 category would be the best but they want to market both phones (less than 7") and tablets. Hence these silly devices have made their way in trying to satisfy both categories.

I really doubt the concept of Surface phones was not interesting for ppls, i think the fail reason was simply that it priced terribly. It had low-midrange feature set with superpremium flagship price, so it only could sell as a concept phone, like Wing or Huawei's foldables, but that's not works for commercial success, just for testing concepts.

These kind of phones are tottaly useless.
No screen protector, nail scratchable screen very costly when repaired, tiny battery inside almost no interesting features apart folding which makes size of the tablet a sitze of a very bulky phone.
Rather a bar phone with serious durability than a crap with many issues and compromises.

Rodolf, 11 Jan 2023I still can buy 2 phones for a price of 1 fold.. 2 phones m... moreand you will have some money left to buy something budget like Amazon Fire 10 to watch movies on bigger screen or browsing websites :)

But that is also because the Surface Duos were hardly advertised, at times rarely available and quiet expensive.

I don't want a display ridge. Then my next phone will be a traditional slab-style device. Two displays, one inside and one outside, are uneconomical and make the device unnecessarily thick.

finally useful design instead of dual-screen design

There is one brand capable of delivering water resistance and pen support on foldables, and it is definitely not made in China.

I think it should have kept its 2 flat screens.

With foldable and rollable screens it is level 2 which it get scratches and level 3 deeper cuts.

                              What is enough?

Very unfortunate to hear as I love my Duo 2 and its glass screens. fantastic for multitasking and reading. I'll be holding onto this bad boi for a while and probably buy another one in case it goes dead. I doubt I'll move to fragile plastic screens until they figure out screen durability that passes Mohs hardness test from JerryRigEverything.

Folding and rolling phones are the future.

People want big screen which they can fit into their pocket.

I had og Galaxy Fold and now Fold 3 and i am waiting for foldable market to grow with more options but my next upgrade will very likely be rollable which would be easy to use as normal phone, get bigger screen when needed and with cheaper price(because only 1 screen instead of 2 and 1 selfie camera is not needed).

With used market you can get very cheap older foldables which still gets at least security updates like og Fold(till around september 2023) or if you want smaller flip phone.

Because used market prices i think we should 2023-2024 start to see cheaper new folding phones with mid range specs and much lower prices. Those old phones really is pain for the oems because you can get fold 2 for pretty cheap which is not that worse than what those mid range folding phones will be.

just WHO are buying these foldable phones? Physics in itself is pretty clear that this is an even worse idea than blanketing the phone in glass. A foldable phone that is prone to failure in so many ways... Instead we should be making sustainable phones that will last 5+ years with normal use.
