        Apple shot themselves on the foot

          Lightning is not obsolete. It did support faster transfer speed and higher wattage charging, if Apple decides to enable them. The problem is Apple, being so stingy and greedy themselves, keeping USB2 speed on iphones for the longest time. Lightning itself is very future proof, it's Apple that intentionally made it obsolete so they can move to wireless.
