I don't know what the usable space is. Maybe 200 GB or lower? Many modern games are over 60 GB. I know that Mac is poor for gaming, but the storage may be enough to install only 3 big games. It's too limiting. 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for $499 would be a steal.

With the educational discount, 499 USD for the base model Mac mini is actually a steal. It seems like a great portable, silent desktop that does the job for most primary/intermediate/high-school students and some university students as well.
M2 Pro Mac mini, however, is a wholly different story - Selecting a 12-core CPU/19-core GPU combo + 32GB RAM will increase the price to 1999 USD, which is exactly the same as the base model M1 Max Studio - While the new Mac Mini has much faster CPU and NPU, and its raw graphics performance should be only slightly worse, you will lose extra 2 non-TB Type-C ports and an SD card slot, as well as 10Gb ethernet, not to mention inferior (albeit still plenty sufficient, I'm assuming) cooling. In the end, you would be paying quite a bit of premium for a small form factor, which might or might not be worth it depending on how you'll be using it.
If you want Mac, always wait for a refurbished unit to come out from Apple unless you're eligible for a discount or really need to have one as soon as possible.

Ridiculous. Price difference between Mini m2 vs mini m2 pro is too much.

And pc game is borderline dead? I doubt you have a proper study regarding these. And web surfacing is no different from using TikTok alike sites. Productivity is just the thing of windows not for limited video editors bound to apple.
