All there's premium glass types gorilla glass or victus or even sapphire glass

All this does is increase the overall price of a smartphone as they want you too pay for brand name tax premium glass

Every year a new glass type comes out and pass crazy lab tests but however the minute it enters the real would there are cases where the screen on the smartphone gets broken by drops scratches dent's

I focus on the screen as it's the most important part of a smartphone as well as the most fragile

The tech industry for whatever reason what's you too believe glass is best so you should pay extra for it

They also make smartphones with glass touch screen but based of fall rate it's it's clear over all there's year's glass is not the way too go as they still not fixed the broken screen problem

Plastic touch screens are better on smartphones and plastic screen protector are better and simply don't have the problems that exist with glass

Don't waste you're money paying extra for glass

JackDopey, 27 Jan 2023Such a massive exercise in mental masturbation. Howevermuch... moreYou don't know what you're talking about. Sapphire is more brittle than glass. Read this: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/08/29/sapphire-gorilla-glass

Sapphire makes sense more watches because people rarely drop their watches. How many times in your life have you seen people drop their watches? On the other hand, people accidentally drop their phones all the time.

Such a massive exercise in mental masturbation. Howevermuch, whatevermuch they do with glass, it will remain glass. There's only so many temperings, coatings that can be done to strengthen it, like the Ceramic/Teflon coats that car markets have. If Sammy's really concerned about durability, they could easily go with Sapphire instead of glass, creating a market breakthrough, it would probably cost them not much more than going with a 'Brand' Corning's brittle product. Alternatively, they cheap out on haptics ALL the time, which could've been something they could've invested in, to make the user experience much better. But Alas! All Samsung wants is huge names to be stuck with it and just the associated marketing gimmicks.

Lugia4k, 26 Jan 2023Unless it’s a sapphire crystal screen it’s the same gimmick... morelearn the different between drop impact and scratch resistance...

"This improved drop resistance didn’t come at the cost of scratch resistance, however."

I'll wait and see JerryRigEverything put it to the test.

Victus 2? Where's GG8? I thought Victus means 7 in some country I didn't care to research on Google.

This talk about drop survival is always more bull than gorilla. When the phone slips out of a jacket pocket while sitting and falls just 20cm, they're going to say your abuse has voided the warranty.

And if xiaomi ever make a 1400 eur device it will be way better than anything else on the market that will come this year.

My first smartphone had Gorilla Glass 3 and now, my phone has Gorilla Glass Victus. I am not seeing any difference between Gorilla Glass 3 and Victus. In fact, Victus feels like worse than 3 because i used my old phone for some time without any screen protector, it didn't get any scratches but new phones easily get micro scratches in just one day if you don't use any protectors.

Unless it’s a sapphire crystal screen it’s the same gimmicky trash that will justify the price increase

bit pointless really considering the cost of repairing it

Now if only they would use a regular thickness of it too. Because as far as I know most companies are like oh the glass is stronger so we can simply use less of it.

Glass on the back, especially not the matt glass, makes absolutely no sense. Also does not make a device premium, more like less repairable, less durable, more costly. And for what?
