02 February 2023
Physical and digital game sales are up. The camera sensor division is going strong too.

            >mobile division not doing so well

Well, no crap, considering Sony's obsession with making devices with last-gen tech/hardware and trying to sell them for supra-current-gen prices

I'll be one if the first to say that, even though I love the brand, the prices are, in my opinion, ends up killing the sales, software support, with all honesty, I couldn't care less. For example, my current phone is a Samsung, not top of the line, but still supported by them, and I got android 13 about a month ago, I think... And somehow, it feels it's getting worst by the day, I hate it. The finger print ready is just bad, even before I put a screen protector, a stupid bug that once in every 10 times I connect to a Bluetooth speaker, starts to call my last number automatically, após suddenly not working and having to restart to get them to work, and on and on it goes. The previous to this one, was a Xperia Z, from 2013 and I bought that reconditioned, and it lasted me until late 2020, and it was the battery that died after a fall. Unfortunately, I needed another phone urgently and got this thing, as there were no other better choices in store. The Z had it's short falls, without a doubt but it was by then a 7 year old phone, it could go to school already, but I didn't miss anything without the updates. If anything, Google themselves released a half baked Android 12 with the pixel 6.
But about the sales, I think I'm also not wrong in saying that every market with Chinese phones available, the established brands aren't doing great either, apart from Apple? The market is so flooded by now, the established brands either go budget and make a loss, premium and hope for the best or find a niche and stick with it as long you don't make a loss, and I think Sony has decided for the later 2.

CargoJoe, 03 Feb 2023People: We want headphone jack, micro SD, better speakers, ... moreMost sony people are all talk but do not vote with their wallet. This is the only brand that combines FLAGSHIP CHIP + 3.5mm JACK + MICROSD slot + useful BEZELS + NO NOTCH + FLAT SCREEN. Drop the flagship chip for a 778G if you want a removable battery while retaining IP68 and you get a Samsung Xcover6 Pro.

But noooooooooooooooo. The price reeeeeeeeeeee. So which cheaper AND brand new alternative can you get?

It was amusing to see an ancient Xperia do better in gaming than one of the newest midranger from Poco at that time.

[deleted post]Consoles are tr@sh anyway. Go outside and enjoy other things, if you really want to do something with your free time.

Xperia 1 IV cost about the same of iphone 13 pro max in my country. Ofc this is from private import shops since Sony mobile already exit my country in 2017. Idk if they're being scalper or not but I've been observing since Xperia 1 II, the cost is always about the same iphone pro max. The sales also very small, mostly around 10ish units/shop, combined with xperia 5 probably less than 100 units in a generation. At this point I'm pretty sure most ppl would choose Galaxy S series or ultra which is about 20% cheaper compared to pro max.

Daemon Targaryen, 03 Feb 2023The PlayStation 5 selling at a slower pace than the PlaySta... moreyeah but it's also a more expensive system and it was harder to get only until very recently has that improved, so best believe those things change more so, it will easily surpass ps4

The PlayStation 5 selling at a slower pace than the PlayStation 4. The PS4 sold 53M after 3 years. The PS5 might reach less than that. I believe the PS5 won't outsell the PS4 once it's all said and done. Both gaming consoles and smartphones don't excite people like they did 10-15 years ago.

I don't believe the successor to the Switch will outsell the Switch like the 3DS didn't over the DS or Wii U didn't over the Wii. Too much competition and perhaps gaming and gadget fatigue. We have enough content across all platforms to entertain us for an entire lifetime.

As expected, their phones only appeal to selected group of users. They have all the technology in the world to make one of the best phones but decides to be selective.

People: We want headphone jack, micro SD, better speakers, stock Android.
                                        Sony: Exist.
                                        People: This phone sucks.

At this point not sure what pe want on a phone.
Not a big of a loss. Compared to last year, only like 10ish billions. Honestly they should play computational photography a bit more attention but keep doing what they're doing. Then there's also the mid range segment. Should have a bigger phone instead of the 10. As far as I remember the Xperia 1 series are not meant to sell well or be a big smartphone name. Let's just see what this year will bring.
