IpsDisplay, 03 Feb 2023I'm gonna be honest with you it's just a minority... moreYes and No.

Yes, people dont know anything about upgrade OS like in iPhone or Samsung, because they still use chinese phone. I was an ex-chinese phone user for 6 years, i knew about which OS i have but still didnt know about long term OS upgrades in iPhone or Samsung. I was like living in my own world

Also No, because as the time goes on, more people getting informed about new features in new OS and the importance of security updates. Also most of iPhone and Samsung user buy the phone for the OS upgrades itself, i mean it is one of main reasons people buy the phone. In samsung forum, start from month October most of samsung user literally start asking about the schedule of new Android OS upgrade. Most of samsung user expect to get OS upgrades before the end of the year.

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2023Why do people care so much about updates? Can you tell diff... morethose android 14 changes, reports said it will blocking app that target "older" android
and those guidelines only apply to apps in playstore
so phones with android 14, wont/cant see apps that have target version below 14

not necessary they blocking sideloading apps, neither older apps, at least that what i read from the news article

i think we need more detailed info regarding that, instead just judge it will make things worse

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2023Why do people care so much about updates? Can you tell diff... moreI'm gonna be honest with you it's just a minority of people that care

Majority just wants a smartphone that works

Don't get caught up with comments in tech spaces and social media it may fool you into believing it is representative of the masses

Most people can't even tell you what OS version they are currently on

Why do people care so much about updates? Can you tell difference between android 12 and 13? Android 14 will take away the ability to easily sideload apps. This makes it a downgrade! Android is going downhill for some time, especially noticeable past 3 years. Updates don't improve anything for us.

So, after keeping the main sensor hardware unchanged over the past couple of years, the is hoping that Sony will finally introduce a more advanced and bigger sensor this time around.
The Snapdragon 8 gen2 is purpotedly significantly more efficient compared with the Gen 1, so let's hope Sony will use this in a way that will alleviate all those hefty overheating problems with their current/last generation phones.
Last but not least, I truly hope Sony will reevaluate their insane pricing.

$5 says that Sony will be doing the same cost cutting that Samsung did with the S23 Ultra.

Aka this phone will be virtually the same as the 1 IV except with a new chipset

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2023Samsung has more practical reverse qi charging lolDifferent strokes for different folks

Xperias are focused on preserving your battery in the long run that's why charge separation is great. Less heat, less cycles on the battery, more time before you have to replace the cell.

Reverse wireless charging might be convenient, but it's awfully inefficient and shortens your cell life span, nice in an emergency, but don't use it regularly

Just others give updates really fast. Samsung for example is doing great now. Fast and more updates. No any lag like in the past. I'm neither a hater nor a fanboy.

Narazumono, 03 Feb 202321:9 is absolutely a deal breaker to me After using the S2... moreYeah, it's fair if you want a wider aspect ratio, my personal preference is toward 18:9, but people complaining about 21:9 (when most phones are 20:9) and acting like it's a extreme outlier is weird.

blue, 03 Feb 2023A new Xperia is coming. Be prepared for a month of hype and... moreI think, based on what I've seen since Xperia and Sony internal restructuring in late 2018 to early 2019 by moving Xperia into a niche market, merging Alpha and Xperia into one roof, and converting Xperia into Sony (Alpha)'s side project as Alpha accessories, and keeping the current small fans, even resulting poor sales compared to Xperia Z3 days, if what I mentioned is what most if not all Sony wants currently, then Sony has achieved what they want from Xperia from what Sony CEO has told in the past.

I really hope Sony won't exit the smartphone market anytime soon. I want to save more money for be to buy at least one of their flagships. It literally has all features which are literally deleted even my midrangers of some brands.

After all who wants their phones to have less features than paying more?

I don't really care about software support (as long as I can use my phone), and the screen aspect maybe a little bit strange, but as I have used old Sony phones, I already love them. Sad that they don't even market their phones better.

                                      Also availability sucks so bad.

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2023Samsung has more practical reverse qi charging lolCan't denied about the convenience of Qi Reverse Wireless Charging, named "Battery Share Function" since 2021 (first with Xperia 1 III, then 1 IV, and currently, 5 IV have this features too), especially since Sony WF-1000XM4 gained the wireless charging feature over XM3.
But HS Power Control that current Sony phones since Xperia 1 II has right now is the same technology on laptops, where it bypass the battery and directly powered the system as it able to reduce heat. Even some Gaming phones have implemented this technology (I think one of Gaming phones reviewed here did that, probably the Nubia Red Magic 7 iinm). It will be useful if did a lot of intense tasks that requires a lot of power. But I've not seen on other phones than Sony and certain Gaming phones, probably due to some reasons.
