I think you're referring to the Samsung Note 8, an issue that happened a decade ago. Samsung did the right thing and bought them all back too.

The ones that they showed at CES 2023 are just demo concepts that it's possible to make them small but nothing official yet for the 2023 lineup.

Wish there will be... moreIn-house components do not always mean they would be cheaper. Divisions are apart and see no difference between clients.
For example, Sony Se icon is gonna sell what they want to whoever is willing to pay.
Alpha and Xperia devices do not get discount on exmor.
Price paid is same other would pay.
Sony Electronics would pay for imx989 same Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo pay. Not single cent less.
Same can be said to LG Display, Samsung Semicon etc ...

Wish there will be a company with everything and every single component of their own.
Nowdays many phones are very costlz becuase every brand, OEM, Manufacturer of every screw comes rom some other company which is garbage.

Soon other suppliers become able to handle giant amount of panels apple needs, be sure samsung will be dropped.
Many chinese phones in the range $300-700 are now using domestic panels instead of samsung oled. Chinese OEMs plan to do this to all their phones in the future.
