This really proves the SD chips aren't the only ones that manufacturers who want to build a flagship need to really on, but let's wait and see what the real world results tell us

MRSTEK, 12 Feb 2023You guys at this website has a long tradition of hyping pro... moreYes, that same person last year before any device was out said D9000 was better than 8g1 based only on benchmark, know he does not say same when 8g2 has better score.

      Funny right?

Anonymous, 11 Feb 2023in thermal temp mediatek always winYou mean that ROG Phone 6D that throttles to 62% without active cooling?

Aierlan, 12 Feb 2023This year mediatek's high end chips such as the dimens... moreThe only reason that some brands used high-end Dimensity in flagship phones was that SD8 Gen1 sucks. Even though SD8 Gen1 is garbage, those brands were still sure that MTK is inferior to Qualcommm. So, they axed many features on dimensity phones to lower the price. Mi 12 pro(D) axed 120w and speakers, Find X5 pro axed custom silicon, and there are many other examples.
This year, if 8+ Gen1 and 8Gen2 are good, why bother use mtk platforms?

I'd be more interested in throttling tests. I dislike phones that start dropping frames in games and/or slow down after playing 30 minutes on them. If they sold cars that can go 100km/h but after 30m slow down to 75km/h I'd feel ripped off. Same with mobiles. I know it's inevitable to _a degree_ but hey, some phones seem better there with the same chipsets. And I'd prefer to not have active cooling, so I can compromise a bit.

This year mediatek's high end chips such as the dimensity 8200 and 9200 seem to be being used in far fewer phones. Last year the snapdragon 8 gen 1 was just bad but tgis year the 8 gen 2 is a big improvement. So far Vivo is the only one to use the 9200 in the x90 and x90pro. A lot of upper midrangers/sub flagships that went with the dimensity 8100 (or 8100—max) last year have switched to the snapdragon 8 gen 1+ for this year e.g. the Redmi k60, the Oneplus Ace 2 and the Realme gt neo 5. Wonder if the snapdragon 8 gen 1+ is now cheaper than the dimensity 8200 as these type of models are always looking to cut costs to keep the price down. Maybe we'll see more later in the year when the prices of the dimensity 9200 and 8200 drop

temperature and stability are more important than 10-15 more frames in the GPU benchmark and 100 or 200 points in the CPU benchmark.
Dimensity 9200 scores about 100 points in the single-core test and about 400 points in the multi-core test, less than the SD 8 gen2, but with lower CPU frequencies.
Snapdragon for Galaxy is also seems to be the Plus version of sd 8 Gen 2, which Samsung used earlier than others.
And the graphics stability of Dimensity 9200, which I saw in a review, is 95% in the stress test, compared to 60% of Adreno 740.
If AAA games come to Android later and connect the phone to a bigger screen with a feature like Samsung DeX, stability is important.

IpsDisplay, 11 Feb 2023Dude stop your making it sound like the 8 gen 2 has a gener... moreBut but 8g2 can handle PUBG 1080@120, D9200 cannot even at 720p.

Again using benchmarks to test? You dont learn...

The close competition of these two companies is great for progress and consumers

You should note that on the gpu tests the devices used don't have the same screen resolution, that affects the onscreen benchmarks

MRSTEK, 11 Feb 2023IRL the 9200 is close to 8+ Gen 1, not 8 Gen 2. That's... moreIt is actually impressive considering the clocks are lower than on the S8G2 and D9000+. There's no much difference in benchmarks. So I'd say D9200 is actually better.

MRSTEK, 11 Feb 2023IRL the 9200 is close to 8+ Gen 1, not 8 Gen 2. That's... moreDude stop your making it sound like the 8 gen 2 has a generational gap

IRL the 9200 is close to the 8 gen 2

The gen 2 is better but it's not that wide a margin they are in the same class/bracket

Not like if you play heavy games on the 9200 it's gonna be running 30 fps while the 8 gen 2 is doing 60fps

Gpu tests are useless. Phones with lower screen resolution have advantage in most of them, no matter SoC.

And there may not be that many 9200 phones this year, because Qualcomm w/ Samsung N4 is not a problem now...
