Instead, it was vertically cropped from a native 16:9 4K canvas with the 3840px width remaining unchanged, hence the 1644px display height.

There's nothing fresh or new in the current smartphone market from the race for display and camera bragging rights. Times like this make me truly miss LG in the smartphone market, where they aren't afraid to do something different such as the detachable Dual Screen case for the V50/G8X/V60/Velvet and swivel screen with gimbal camera manual control for the Wing 5G.

First of all Xperia 4K display is the brightest sustainable display you will find next to S22 Ultra in High Brightness mode. That means it in manual mode slider it will output much more brightness than any other phone in manual mode. Manual mode means it can glow bright for unlimited period of time unlike in auto mode which can only allow short burst of max brightness. Second Xperia 4K doesn't experience flickering at lower brightness settings like Samsung and iPhones do due to proper PWM.
When we talk about cameras please name more than two phones besides Xperia which can lock subject focus and exposure while doing a 20fps burst? I could go on with Xperia camera and why it's so good but you wouldn't understand that.

But hey if you put it aside by side it opens apps slightly faster than the already fast of some others...

What you didn't do is do any research on the topic to know anything relevant to have the capability to respond regarding this.
When I say 2-8 years those are based on lab tests done by places like gamarena.
If you don't know that then you don't know anything about the device to have the right to comment on the topic.

When you're selling a phone for $2500 and it only matches the brightness of an 8 year older flagship that's a problem.
Add on top of that speakers match two year older phone, camera is behind, battery capacity and longevity.
They are cost cutting on parts, they are savings on software by not implementing as many features and have more bugs.
They are saving by not advertising. And they are saving by not releasing it in more markets or working with carriers to have it available. And as a result lacking carrier support for many.
But then they want to charge dramatically more than others.

Only sony own apps have UI with 4K support.

Steve Jobs was mindblown about Sony.. And a big fan if not the biggest....that's how they stole designs and product ideas.... ( see Steve Jobs documentary)
