But the Apple ones are more loud than you may think.
Just look at some videos of people that cry when they see a green bubble. Or those who mock Android for having "low quality" photos.

Apple has been living rent free in your minds for well over a decade!
On every YouTube 14 pro max vs s23 ultra comparison the comment sections are ALWAYS in favour of S23, yet these comments do not translate to sales numbers LOL. Every year galaxy s series never get close to iPhone. It’s truly comical.

GAMIR3DH, 17 Feb 2023Check on any GSMArena comments about any S23 articles. It seems we're not reading the same webpage or even comment section. And given I had great interest in Galaxy S23 (which I also bought in the end), I spent a lot of time in Galaxy S23 related articles and didn't notice such complaints at all. Some mentioned it, but nowhere near the implication you're making it that it was a huge outcry about it. I frankly don't see anything wrong about the S23 Ultra's design. Hell, vanilla models actually got the biggest visual upgrade by following the Ultra's camera styling. And Samsung actually listened a bit and made sides a bit flatter which gives it a bit better grip (although I use clear TPU case which is less slippery than bare phone anyway so it doesn't matter in my case).

Subtle design changes. Yup keeping them designers busy and innovative. I do hope they won't come through with the capacitive buttons as they won't work, i mean they will have ghost presses a lot. Just look at the car industry where the engineers thought it was an great idea to put touch controls on the steering wheel and now they are causing unintentional touches a lot.

Who cares about Apple anyway? The iphone has only one look for Christ's sake! Iphone 13, 14, 15? They're the same design! Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

The thinner size is because Apple is reducing battery capacity.
They do this every single time.
Every time they make a significant improvement in the processor, they make the phone thinner. Because it's much faster, they try to balance that with a smaller battery, which gives them an artificial area to increase for the next year, and it makes cooling less efficient. Or if the processor isn't that much faster, but if it uses significantly less battery, they will do the same. Otherwise they will find a new feature which will use up more battery (5G antenna, 120Hz display, higher resolution, or brighter screen). They also do this with camera upgrades, where some generations you get a slight bump, and other upgrades where the camera is the defining feature/larger upgrade.
Heck, just compare the dimensions, weight, battery size, chip, and battery life:
iPhone 8 Plus : 92.8cm2, 202g, 2691mAh, 900-2000, 81h.
iPhone XSMax: 93.9cm2, 208g, 3174mAh, 1100-2500, 79h.
iPhone 11 Max: 99.6cm2, 226g, 3969mAh, 1300-3300, 102h.
iPhone 12 Max: 92.9cm2, 228g, 3687mAh, 1600-4000, 95h.
iPhone 13 Max: 96.7cm2, 240g, 4352mAh, 1700-4700, 121h.
iPhone 14 Max: 98.5cm2, 241g, 4323mAh, 1800-5400, 120h.
Differences: 6.8cm2, 39 grams, 1661 mAh, 900solo 3400multi, 42 hours.
iPhone 8 Plus : 100% cm2, 100% g, 100% mAh, 100% A11, 103% h.
iPhone XSMax: 101% cm2, 103% g, 118% mAh, 122% A12, 100% h.
iPhone 11 Max: 107% cm2, 112% g, 147% mAh, 144% A13, 129% h.
iPhone 12 Max: 100% cm2, 113% g, 137% mAh, 177% A14, 120% h.
iPhone 13 Max: 104% cm2, 118% g, 162% mAh, 188% A15, 153% h.
iPhone 14 Max: 106% cm2, 119% g, 161% mAh, 200% A16, 152% h.
Differences: 7% cm2, 19% grams, 62% mAh, 100% chip, 52% battery.
Apple are geniuses at making technical improvements, but then staggering them to the consumer. It helps their revenue and profit margin, which in turn keeps their shareholders happy.
