Redmi introduces 300W fast charging which fills a phone battery in 5 minutes

28 February 2023
A phone can charge from 0 to 100% in five minutes, says the Xiaomi brand.

I'm all for innovation, but this is getting ridiculous. This phone has a faster top charging rate than my bulky high-end gaming laptop with a massive 280W charging brick.

Now that I think of it many phones already charge faster than this laptop because the highest rate of charge to the battery I've seen is 80W on it. The other 200W are probably for powering the hungry CPU and GPU.

Sin, 28 Feb 2023In the real world you don't fix a problem of battery l... moreNot really in the past battery technology was poor now since 2020 we have different battery types.. where phone has two cells ... ( laptops has 3 or 4 or 5 cells) so 300w will be divided into 150 to one cell adn 150w to second cell...
And lifetime battery will still be around 5 years and manufacturers already know that people especially youth are deluded by new models every year so not to worry people will replace phone sooner than battery will reach end of life... :)
Naive people now replacing phones every year.. or two

My phone charges at 67W; it only needs 30 mins to fully charge and for me it is just enough. But 260W or 300W its already too much and risks come with it because technology is not ready yet

I remember the same discusion with 30W charger. I have phone with 30W charger. At the time when I was shopping for new phone I read exactly the same argument as yours that I will replace battery every six months. And now my phone will soon be out of support for security updates which for me means that I will have to get new phone.
                Battery at 89% health.
Fast charging allows me to.do two baterry saving things:
                1. Don't charge it overnight because I can charge from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes, so i just plug it once or twice during the day.
                2. Something you cant do with slow charging. If you are using your slow charge phone until about 0% and you have emergency and need to go somewhere then you might have a problem because your phone is at 10%. But witch fast charging in 15 minutes I can go from 10% to about 50%.

Of course for men having 300W is just a gadget. I don't care about it. But I guess someone will. I will aim my next phone at about 60W charging because that is enough for me.

300W? 5 minutes to reach full charge? insanity!

how long will these batteries last?

no way the life span can be good!

That's how regular average users are using their chargers because they don't care and don't know much about phones, they just plug in without too much thinking. That's it.

Yeah, you don't have to use fast charging all the time, but why not if companies are advertising like it doesn't effect battery longetivity? So? Why not?

                        Anyways, have a nice day!

Onanymaus, 01 Mar 2023Here's the definition of white elephant from wikipedia... moreWhite elephant from Merriam Webster dictionary (second entry):
2a: a property requiring much care and expense and yielding little profit

b: an object no longer of value to its owner but of value to others

c: something of little or no value

By 2a and 2c above, 300W is a white elephant. Even 200W is of little value.

Onto your next argument; sorry, I didn't assume. I made statement of fact when I said that "very few manufacturers have Samsung's (and Sony's) "protect battery" feature that limits charging to 85%." All you have to do is invalidate it. But you can't, can you?

Funny enough, you're the one making assumptions and reading false meaning into a very clear statement.

Tbh I feel like this technology should be implemented more on a bigger battery like 5000 or 6000 mAh, or maybe some kind of tablets with 10.000 mAh, rather than some phone with smaller 4.100 mAh battery.

I honestly don't know how long it takes my phone to charge. It's 40% to 60% when I go to sleep and it's 100% when I wake up. I'd be mad if the battery was so weak that it runs out of power before I do.
