Anonymous, 05 Mar 2023The Galaxy Flip is the more popular one, especially due to ... moreI think the Flip's success is mostly due to the nostalgia factor of the 2000s where every phone had this formfactor. People like this in general. As far as usability, I think it is incredibly useless formfactor to be honest. Unless you really care about your phone's length when its in your pocket, it offers no real benefit.

I lasted 10 days with the Fold 4 until I returned it. The hardware is simply amazing and there are some nifty software integrations like Flex Mode, but as a whole, the software just isn't there yet. Most apps on the inner screen just stretch to fill the screen without really using the bigger size for anything meaningful. The outside screen is just too narrow for any serious usage, especially typing is nearly impossible. I like the idea of foldables but we still have long ways to go before it becomes something really useful. Just my opinion.

The Galaxy Flip is the more popular one, especially due to the deals Samsung runs for it. I've seen old dudes at my work using the Flip. It's really incredible how this phone has been accepted by people so quickly and easily.

1.2 billion phones were sold in 2022 but only 14.2 million foldables. that says everything about how much one schould care about the almost non-existent foldables market.

Th... moreBoth Motorola and Lenovo recently showcased a rollable screen smartphone and laptop concept at MWC. For me, a rollable screen makes much better sense than a foldable screen since you can have three resolutions (smartphone, foldable, laptop/tablet) in one display.

Errr, duh? Samsung is the only one making their foldables available in most markets, obviously they are the ones people bought, or the only one that people could buy. Many Chinese ones don't sell outside China, and Moto only sells in the US and few other markets.

If Samsung makes a Fold with 2 separate displays and minimal bezels between the two, Id buy it.
Folding display is too fragile. And it's expensive. And you need special hinges, you have gaps etc.
Or something with a real keyboard would be nice. Like the old school Nokia Communicator.

I had og Fold and upgraded to Fold 3.

I think foldabels and rollabels are future of smartphones(people want big screen what they can fit into the pocket) but the pricing of the newest devices is still too high for majority of people.

I have little bit of fear that current generations of foldabels are having issues where without user error the foldable display will break if user does not remove screen protector (removing it could cancel warranty)

I am actually thinking moving to oneplus 11 or nothing phone 2(if it has newest snapdragon 8 gen 2) but also thinking to waiting for rollable phones.

PepperPot, 04 Mar 2023Samsung also outsold all foldables in China except Huawei. ... more"If the Z5 turns out to be what we've been hearing, I expect the Z will be on its way to leading sales in China in 2-3 years."

Zero chance! Chinese don't like Samsung.

Yeah, and how many comebacks had there been since than the other brands combined?
Samsung has the highest rate of comeback's and problematic devices than any other brand with an average of 70%, that are manufacturer faults. Their cameras and device features are on top with many other brands but Samsung's quality, in my opinion is below average and has carried that trend for almost 7 years now.
