Kangal, 12 Mar 2023While I'm a fan of Juan Bagnell, he was wrong about th... moreThe management was trying to surpass Samsung when Samsung was already a giant for them, they were as known as them in Europe for example. Still sold though carrier and installment, I got my G3 and G4 that way for a decent price, not as now when mid ranger cost as much as G3 when launched 😥

YUKI93, 12 Mar 2023The G5 came out in the same year as the Apple iPhone 7, two... moreWhile I'm a fan of Juan Bagnell, he was wrong about that point.
Motorola's solution was more as an accessory, whereas LG integrated it into the phone, actually making it modular. While he has a point about the switching it off to connect, but that's because LG was experimenting on a design to have a User Removable Battery, and have ingress protection.
That's right, the LG G5 was (secretly) water resistant. It didn't pass the proper IP68 certification, but it was around an IP66 level. About equal to the Sony Xperia Z5/C/P of its day, and ahead of the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Also if you want to compare the LG G5 to Apple, I think you need to compare it to the iPhone 6S Plus which is a closer competitor. Apple is usually 6-months ahead of Android Competition to the market in terms of technology (eg TSCM-7nm), and the iPhone 7 Plus released further apart (that compares to the LG V30). The problem with LG with the G3 to the V20 was a hardware flaw that caused the phone to enter a soft-lock, and cycling bootloop. I had this on my LG Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X as well. While their morals, prices and performance were great, where they lacked was in their Quality Control, Availability, and Support. Their software sucked back then but so did everyone else (except OnePlus and Sony). Also back then LG's cameras were great but not the best (Apple, Samsung) but competitive (Sony, Huawei, Nexus, HTC). But their biggest misstep was about their design, appeal, and marketing... it just "wasn't desirable". Neither was Xiaomi/Redmi, Huawei/Honor, and Oppo/Vivo but they had a captive audience of a billion customers in Mainland China, something that LG did not have.
It was just bad management. You can say that about the other giants that failed in the market:
Nokia, Palm, Blackberry, Microsoft, etc etc.

G4 was blamed because of MB issue (bootloop), G3 was kinda in the same boat with the battery + motherboard issue too. Don't forget some burned amoled screen too, when using Snapchat or Messenger for example, remember floating bubbles ? They were MARKED in the screen 😥
And I really did love a lot my G3 and G4 (The buttons on the back, the high screen DPI 😍), the pictures took with them were stunning. I really like the curve of the G4 too! I miss the good old LG that competed with Samsung. Switched after to a S7 and then S7, S8, Note9, Note10+, S22U and now gladly S23U ... S22U was really my 'worst' buy, glad to have sold it without any loss 😂
No MicroSD, Exynos / battery that wasn't that good, handling that is far better on S23U with a flatter screen ... I kept using my 3 years old Note10+ when I got the S22U haha.

Lg unlike nokia, htc and sony, did have their prices right.
They just had some hardware issues like bootloop on some phones. Also the lack of proper marketing.
Still their phones were great. Would love to see them return someday.

LG failed because of their software, which was terrible. G4 was a FAIL due to this despite that G4 cam was one of the best in the market (even the display), and G4 had a removable battery (battery life was bad). They had great hardware though.

The biggest problem was this was impossible to find when it came out and the accessories were expensive and yet again impossible to find!

Ahhhh nostalgia.
The only reason I bought the S7 over the G5 was the problem LG had with G4 and G5 motherboards. Surprised that wasn't mentioned.
Other than that the phone was perfect. Oh how I wish we had modular phones with batteries and dacs now. We don't even get a freakin' headphone jack!

Anonymous, 12 Mar 2023LG left the smartphone market at the wrong time.
They ha... moreMan rollable phone just like flip and fold are nothing but an useless gimmick costing lot of money but with a mohs 2 pick easily scratchable screens.
Regardless of the brand as long as any olf does not have main screen capable of GG Victus or using proper shapphire screen tempered glass protector its nothing just gimmick.
And about Velvet 2.
One easy reason which LG left for was pricing.
They asked way more than people were ready to spend for what LG had to offer.
Just like the Velvet 1 when released-
No matter how good it was it was midranger after all for 750 euros.
LG unreasonable pricing was rerason they got extinct from mobile world.

I really loved this phone. If not for the bootloop issues.
This was the first time I saw an ultrawide cam on a phone and heck this is even better than the telephoto lenses back then.
The design is also good, albeit a false "aluminum" body. 3.5mm jack and a portable DAC, i swear this is an all-in-one phone.
