This is the only metal unibody phone I know with a removable battery, maybe even the only one that does not use plastic for its frame and back (excluding the LG G4 which could have its plastic back swapped with leather)

Imagine a square-shape smartphone which is actually a rollable smartphone, able to expand vertically until it is shaped liked a rectangular smartphone... I'm not into foldables but i'm really curious with rollables, and i wonder when will rollable smartphones be a hype in the smartphone market?🤔🧐🤑

LG phones were the best. They offered top tech without any shortcuts. If only they spent some money on the marketing, the world would have been a better place.

Written from the LG V30 which has no real replacement in 2023.

Ive been reviewing the G and V series during that time. The downfall of LG in the smartphone market started in the G4. It was mainly due to the stuttery performance and mediocre battery life of its devicese esp for the flagship G4 and V10. Unlike Samsung, they also keep pushing drastic hardware changes and didn't established its own design language.
Ultimately, they have less customer support compared to Samsung that has a bigger reach.
Even in today's appliances, LG is quite lagging behind Samsung in quality and durabilit.

It all started with the best compact , best hand grip feel and most useful back buttons placement device LG G2 , to date I still hope someone brave makes such a simple yet complete device, The Lg3 I had only for 1 month tryout just till the G4 brown leather delivery arrived so nothing exceptional despite the better display . The G4 was "unique" I loved how light , and cool it looked , but boy was it Hot , the display burn in trend that started withe the G3 just jumped over to the Flex and G4 .Decided to check what's so cool about the V series , the V 20 was the Toughest, most durable , battery easy peasy switch, funky extra top display , just the SN 820 was the perfect for that device, the headphones that came always with every single LG phone purchase were dope , speakers always improved with generation's, the software was light , no Display issues ( for me at least) , I really really wanted to check the V30-35 , but I was happy with my V20 , the G5 was cool , innovative was competing with Motorola for device's with extra adapters which nobody else had the guts to do , the last Mobile king with replaceable battery , easy self repair , speakers were high quality, audio jack , decent camera's, but people got greedy for more shiny and I guess everyone wanted bigger and more "premium" feel to justify their outrageous price's , I didn't get it but had it for few days because I already had the V45 Wich I was really happy with . I loved the sleek design of G6 but it wasn't any better than the last 2-3 generation's, obviously I bought the V50 , and the extra display , for few months I even used my phone as my PC thanks to the LG desktop mode ,wasn't perfect but it helped in need , solid battery life on all phones so far , I was always sad that Lg never went for the latest CPU chip but I realized it was nothing fabulous or needed, since Sd 835-845-855 were really decent ,cool top chips . Just before I got the resolve to get the V60 even though I didn't like the enormous size and the damn white gold color, I heard some rumors that LG's Android section was closing their production line meaning also no software updates which were already Verry Verry few in a year, Just want to mention G7 was probably better than G8 ( not the G8X) Yes. I was a long time LG user and a fan , it was like a relationship most of the times I was happy truthfully, but the times it left me speechless I was speechless and annoyed. Overall LG was great , all companies had good and hard times , sad that they choose to fold but also they kinda saved themselves since not a single company is able to satisfy today's consumers but they didn't get the recognition they deserved also everyone literally stole their ideas Iphone and Samsung Htc and the blatantly promoted like they came up with those innovations. As for G5 This was the last user friendly phone.

magnaroader, 12 Mar 2023At least LG used to keep trying new things. Samsung and App... moreYou are confusing apple with samsung.. No apart from s22 Ultra and s23 ultra being similar.. year after year the models look very different. S20 is hugely different from s10.. s21 the same.. and s22 is massively different from s21. Whereas apple 14 pro apart from the notch, looks exactly like iphone 12 pro.

they are innovative, but maybe failed to "feel" the market or failed to hype their products like most brands now...
still rocking a g4 (spared from bootloop)
a g8 with its three biometrics - face id like iphones, rear fingerprint sensor like androids before, and palm id like no one else...
a v50s that lets me enjoy a "removable" folding case... no crease, but gaps like the microsoft duo...
and the wing - the first and the last phone to be officially released from explorer project, where the lg rollable is a part of it... and the third part of this project, the foldable that folds nearly 360 degrees... yes, a hybrid of mate xs and galaxy fold, folding inward and outward...
it must be fun when this project continues, even by samsung or oppo or lenovo...

At that time it was one of few phones with high amount of camera control and interesting new hardware or design.
Mobile phone space is not good with magic replacements though, tech changes are just too fast.
I'm sure though if they persevered like sony, they could see the light right now with less chinese phones globally. It's a shame.

Lots of twisting, swiveling, rotating phones, the quirky serenata, lipstick phones, credit card phones, I miss that Samsung as much as I miss LG and Nokia.

I never had a good LG phone.
Full of features, maybe. But always of poor quality, whether it was hardware or software.

As I type this on my V60, I really do miss LG. It's a shame I don't have an upgrade path for them. They represented so many things to me. Courage in not adding features that didn't benefit the user just to look innovative. (like super moon zoom in Huawei phones - that was a gimmick and I'm sure we all know how that turned out) Faith in that they stayed loyal to their users needs and never took away features for profit. (LG has been making truly wireless earbuds for years, but they never removed the headphone jack. LG could've earned more money by offering higher storage variants and removing the SD card slot, but they didn't do that either) Integrity in that they never made false claims about their hardware, or flipped on their claims and did something they said they wouldn't do. (Like modern Samsung advertising their 200MP camera as actually having 200MP of detail - if you know how pixel binning works you'll know this isn't the case. Like Samsung making fun of apple for removing the charger from their boxes then doing the same thing the year after. {Not using Samsung twice on purpose, just what comes to mind}) Selflessness in that they sold premium phones at a lower price than the competition when they could've gotten away with more profit. (The LG V60 without the dual screen case was 700$ at launch, as opposed to the closely comparable S20 Ultra) Trust in that they always gave the software updates they promised, even if they were late they always came. (The LG G8X recieved android 12 in August of 2022, it's 3rd major update since it released in September 2019 with Android 9)

I will miss LG. I know many people on this platform like to hate on them and make excuses about why it's okay for other companies to remove genuinely useful features, but I couldn't care less about that.

Their phones will be remembered by the people that *really* used them, and I will never apologize for fighting for features that shouldn't have been removed in the first place. If there's one thing I took from their departure, it's that the people who care about pro features need to stop taking no for an answer and vote with their wallets while they still have a chance. Sony is the ONLY company still making phones with truly pro features, and they could go under just as easily as LG did if we don't vote with our wallets.

Addressing those of you who don't personally use those features, but know people who'd value them:
Don't tell your mom to buy an iPhone. If she's reluctant to replace her old phone because she wants a headphone jack, or a memory card to store her pictures and videos on, let her know that Sony makes phones for her. We as techies have a responsibility that we have been failing to uphold, which is to dispense information that leads to a consumer making their own choice. We don't need to upsell everyone to an S23 Ultra, or Pixel 7 Pro, or OnePlus 11. What we should be doing is educating. Many people don't even know Sony still makes phones, let alone that their phones have expandable storage and wired audio. Let them know. Not just for Sony, but for everyone. If your uncle really hates display cutouts, show him a RedMagic or ZTE phone. If your aunt really wants a compact phone but doesn't want an iPhone mini, tell her about Sony's Xperia 5 series or Asus's Zenfone series. When we accept that Samsung and Apple aren't the only ones making great pocket computers, we can start giving consumers the key to better purchase decisions. Phones are not one size fits all devices, and they should not be treated as such.

I had lots and lots of fun with the G5 SE's cameras! It was a nice little phone with an interesting design language. I had the grip module, and it was cool indeed!
Phone felt like metal to me but the coating started chipping away in a few weak spots. Plus back button tended to detach... it was a bit of a PITA... loved it nonetheless :)

BTW are you guys sure that cameras differ from the G5? At the time people swore the only difference were CPU and memory, and comparing exif data from both models the reported focal lenght is exactly the same (4.43 mm for main cam, 1.53 ultrawide).
