Qualcomm schedules March 17 event, new Snapdragon 7 chipset incoming

10 March 2023
We are not sure whether the name will be Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 or will skip to Gen 2.

On Samsung's nodes it was horrible, with TSMC it was bearable. But then again we are talking about ONE of those X-cores. I think in the future with 3nm and beyond, it may be okay to have TWO of them.

Hence, 2+6+4.
2x Cortex-X3: sparingly activated for burst performance.
6x Cortex-A730: these do most of the work, most of the time.
4x Cortex-A515: low-power only.

Digdigfig, 13 Mar 2023You really think they will make a 12 core chip? I highly do... moreWith the 2023 processors (X2, A715, A515) it was ARM who also introduced a new DynamIQ protocol which keeps upto x12 cores per system. What I listed as a hypothetical is the best Qualcomm can achieve while relying on Stock configurations.

The likes of Apple can design a different protocol, as long as it adheres to some fundamentals of ARMv9 it is fine. But just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should. It would need a big writeup, potentially bugs and security flaws, and it's an expensive yet slow process. For instance, the M1/M2 Pro and M1/M2 Max don't follow the "eight core limit" from ARM, and that also goes for the 20-core M1 Ultra.

Kangal, 12 Mar 2023I think Qualcomm can do better to differentiate their chips... moreI dissagree on the GPU side.
The very reason that Mediatek able to raise is because Qualcomm mid range is weak.
The GPU side should be like this:
              8 gen = 100%
              7 gen = 75% of 8gen (instead of you're only 50%)
              6 gen = 50% of 8gen
              4 gen = 25% of 8gen

Snapdragon story is getting old, they milk the Snapdragon till its death.

I think Qualcomm can do better to differentiate their chips.
For instance, in 2024, hypothetically like this:

                      QC 8g3: 2+6+4 (X3, A730, A515), 2560 ALU (Adreno 860), TSMC-3nm
                      QC 7g3: 1+3+4 (X3, A730, A515), 1280 ALU (Adreno 840), TSMC-3nm
                      QC 6g3: 0+4+4 (X3, A730, A515), 512 ALU (Adreno 820), TSMC-5nm
                      QC 4g3: 0+2+6 (X3, A730, A515), 256 ALU (Adreno 810), TSMC-5nm

Hardly any phone with 782G or 7 Gen 1, and none on the radar for even the 6 Gen 1. They just use crappy CPUS like D700 and SD695.
