MATE 30 PRO, 28 Mar 2023Nokia sues while still making junk phones. That is what rem... moreWhat you meant was probably Nokia is charging for their patents and HMD Global is selling crap under Nokia name. HMD Global is from Finland, the same as Nokia, but they're not the same company. HMD Global just have some former employes of Nokia, that's it. No real connections between those two except they share the same name so (naive) people actually think theycre buying a real Nokia device which is far from the truth as real Nokia is not making phones any more.
Cheers!

ASL, 28 Mar 2023This is what is left from pure European tech giants - paten... moreNokia always change its 150 years old company, they have been leaders in many Kind of technologies. And i can bet 100% that comment you made have been possible because of Nokia tech somewhere, if Not submarine cable, Cell tower, Phone modem, 2g, 3g, 4g, 5g etc.
They are still relevant and are profitable like their Golden phone Era, because they dont make phone doesnt mean they stopped inventing and do research.
Most Chinese companies are parasites, they like to use others technologies while they dont contribute anything.

AnonD-1091185, 28 Mar 2023This is basically 'indirect ban" I said it before... moreMan you are so Mis informed.
1. Apple pay Nokia a lot of money, last time they Sued Apple and Get 2B usd, only Huawei come close to What Apple is Paying Nokia.
2. Apple didnt kick Nokia out of US market and there have never been time where Nokia was Dominant in Us market, that Market always been dominated by local brands
3. You cant rise price of SEP they are licenced under Frand rules, one of the Reason Nokia dont earn like Microsoft in patents is because of Frand.
4. Nokia can Sue Oppo anywhere thats just start i wont be suprised if they sue them in other Asian countries.
Its not about jealous, Oppo are using someone else technologies without paying. Solution is Simple Oppo should stop using technology, but instead they decide to use them without paying, how can you defend that practise?

ASL, 28 Mar 2023This is what is left from pure European tech giants - paten... moreIndeed. It's so sad. That is what happens when you think you're on the top of the world and nothing can happen anymore. Another reason is greed, pure greed. We on the "old" continent sold out all our knowledge to anyone with the biggest wallet, regardless of the consequences for the future. The excuse was "globalisation". Back in 2000-2010 we were convinced that the world would become one big shop without frontiers. Although we all knew that it wasn't true because of politics, we all turned a blind eye to it because we were so happy to by dirt cheep things that used to cost something that reflected more the actual value of it. Who's to blame? All Of Us! Each and everyone of us, so not only rich people and/or politicians. They created the mechanics for it but we used it greedily.

Although I was never much of a fan of Huawei, it was always interesting to see them compete with Samsung and Apple, especially in the design & photography department. Seeing them practically vanish from certain markets around the world was disheartening.
Also their Kirin chips were great in terms of efficiency. Their Kirin 810/820 mid range chips were class leading back in 2019/2020. Their demise only made Qualcomm (& maybe mediatek) lazy, as they only pumped out a lot of mediocre mid range chips (730,732,720,690,695,680,750,480,480+) since that time, that couldn't match up to the kirin 810/820. If these Kirin chips were still on the international market, Qualcomm would have stepped their game up a long time ago.

Carol, 28 Mar 2023You are right until the point you're calling stollen t... moreStolen is a big word. If you look at it that way, please think that actually our big friends in the US of A invented the concept of stealing tech on a corporate level and pressed themselves to patent it. So accusing China (and many more countries over the entire world) of adopting similar strategies would be, kind of, hypocrite. Throughout the history of mankind it was rarely the inventor who saw industrialisation and use of his/her thoughts. Never the less, Huawei became a master in creating devices that others like Samsung could only dream of achieving.
Oppo and Co is progressing at the same pace as Huawei when it comes to creating class leading devices, surpassing the top ranking ones. They aren't there yet but it's just a question of time.

I don't think this is fake news. Nokia have confirmed legal action/pursuit in a number of different market regions. If the situation isn't rectified, It's only a matter of time before Oppo devices are pulled from these regions.
I doubt it'd make good public relations if Oppo outright released press statements confirming the news. This would impact consumer confidence in their products in those territories. Therefore they'd naturally release PR statements disputing the rumors or claim an alternative reason. (Slow sales etc). This is classic text book PR.
Regardless, I hope for the sake of consumer choice and competitiveness/innovation, the issue is swiftly resolved. It'd be a shame to see any (stable) brand disappear, as this just limits choice.

But I remember it is because perhaps Germany government forswore ir asseverate to Finland company they will be their best supporter that's why long time ago Germany so so much were advertising Nokia in Europe and managed to brake to USA ..
It is pure jealousy and unfortunately business interference . From sad nokia stand point it is jealousy Why Oppo should pay from their earnings to some loosers money for free ??🤷♂️ nokia should be really angry at apple as iphone basically wiped them from USA and replaced even in movies. Now u see everyone only using iphones in films not like Nokia when matrix movie boosted them so much.Everything in business has to do with jealousy when other company can't compete anymore

Carol, 28 Mar 2023Nokia Name and patents, and nokia corporation ownes shares ... moreYes, a 10.1% share or so - and other investors which include Google & Qualcomm.
I just wish Nokia had more input, influence & control over the HMD design/specs/quality, as we'd might then see the devices holding up to the esteemed (& in my opinion, prestigious!!) Nokia name.

This is a poorly written article, I must say. The Chinese source article mentions that Oppo is pulling out of the UK because of lack of sales, and out of Germany too due to the amount of loyalty Oppo would have to continue paying to Nokia to operate in that country (again implying it's not generating
enough profit), but will CONTINUE OPERATING in the rest of the Europe. The first tweet doesn't include any proof for its claim and the second one has been deleted already, so neither of them can be considered as a reliable source! France and Netherlands part is a baseless BS.
This is not a ban; Oppo is exiting from these two countries despite being given an opportunity to keep selling its products because it's not making enough money in Europe to begin with. Sooner or later, this would have happened eventually even if Nokia had not sued them in the first place.
