"The new low-energy chip inside the iPhone 15 Pro series will also power the NFC, Bluetooth LE and UW chips while the device is powered off and even when the phone battery is completely drained"

Very nice, I'm sure all the interested parties involved in data collection will appreciate that

I'm not an iPhone person but I appreciate what apple is doing with phones lately. Bringing innovation and new features while chinese companies literally just keep adding more megapixels, charging speeds, cameras, RAM, display size etc to the point where it's mostly unnecessary. It's an overkill but I guess whatever helps them sell their tras

a feature that will change the universe, copied, and then forgotten

Is this copied from the htc U12 or will it be something different i wonder

It sounds great but i can't imagine how the cases will look like (unless you still have to press it like on iPhone SE/7/8).
I also can't imagine the price, it'll be more expensive. iPhone 14 Pro started at 1600€ and now it dropped to 995€.

Anton-, 31 Mar 2023Nothing new under the sun!! but of course after this comes ... moreMore like Apple is going to market it as if It's a new thing lol (which tbf, it's definitely unique compared to the recent crop of smartphones)

Not trying to start anything, I actually like the idea of a dedicated chip to handle auxiliary tasks - I could see it helping with tracking your phone after its dead like a previous comment mentioned, but what benefits does a solid state button give over pre existing methods? Is the customisable button sensitivity a thing only possible with this technology not possible with the previous method? Why the need to change something when it's already working?

Apple only made one full generation with a solid-state home button (iPhone 7, iPhone 8 was the same year as the X), and people planned it for how unlike a button press the haptics were. Anyone else think this is just Apple's parth to a fully buttonless phone?

Don't agree with the solid state buttons, But love the idea of the side low energy chip powering bluetooth, nfc, etc. Will come in useful for tracking phone when battery is dead and phone is lost. Could also phone use as payment card if battery is dead (dunno how authentication will work in this scenario)

Nothing new under the sun!! but of course after this comes out all the android manufacturers are going to copy, despite the fact that HTC already did something like this almost a decade ago
