Good example of Europe not able to compete with China. Lawsuits that's a lot more than a million words.

not a loss really. BBK sold heavily overpriced phones in europe anyways. 1400€ for Oppo Find X5 Pro at launch... even S23 Ultra and iphone 14 pro max cost less

AnonD-1091185, 12 Apr 2023They do but not in mass production anymore but they using a... moreThey aren't using them, quite the opposite. HMD bought the license to make Nokia phones, in other words they paid the fees to the "actual" Nokia, the same way Oppo and the rest of the BBK should pay the fees in this case.

Nokia wins either way, either BBK pays them and keeps on selling phones or through a lawsuit, but then BBK has to halt sales in some markets like Germany. Why not just pay them?

AnonD-1091185, 12 Apr 2023It doesn't matter if they or not the point is clear .... moreEver herd for word "patent"?
          What about the word "royalty"?

          Still nothing rings the bell?

Well then, it's not a surprise that you have that opinion of yours but that's the problem. People here are saying facts about Nokia Oy. corporation and you are trying to equalise that with what HMD Global is doing with their Nokia brand name licencing for their phones.

Dude.. you can't win against facts.
Do your job and inform yourself better before commenting as you clearly don't know what the hell are you talking about. Those are not facts, just an opinion you pulled from your ass. Sorry if I sound too harsh... But what else to say? Everybody telling you Oppo didn't pay for Nokia patents which they been using in their phones. Every company pays royalties to Nokia because they have so many patents in telecommunucation sector, so why should Oppo be exluded?
This Nokia Oy Corporation has nithing to do with HMD Global Nokia branded phones. Check for yourself dude. Just pick your favorite internet browser and start typing questions about Nokia and HMD Global. They are two separate companies each doing their stuff.

          Have a bloddy nice day!

[deleted post]I'm not arguing, just stating facts.

AnonD-1091185, 12 Apr 2023It doesn't matter if they or not the point is clear .... moreCompany that does not sell phone is "jealous" of one that makes when the second is using tech from the first without paying.

This is not nokia's fault oppo is not capable of creating own tech to replace nokia's.

From the looks of it, it seems the patent pricing fee increase must be extortionate, as this is the only reasonable & possible explanation for why BBK are unable to negotiate on a fair price.

Although, it seems other manufacturers outside of the BBK group haven't created publicity regarding this issue, therefore the fault may lay with BBK & their refusal to accept the license renewal fees.

Either way, there must be a specific and valid/substantiated reason for this issue, as court costs & restrictions enforced in specific market regions is very costly & can limit sales & long term profits substantially.

Unless Nokia have allocated variable pricing between manufacturers. This could also be a possibility.

Maybe Realme have agreed on the license renewal price, so they remain unaffected?

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I just feel for us as consumers, as the last thing we want or need during this period of inflation, is limited choice.

Companies that do this believe they can get better price if the case goes to court. Hoping the patent owner will be desperate for money and accept lower value.
You would be shocked to see how many companies out there have lawsuits against Apple for same reason.

                                        There is no other way.
It is either BBK pays nokia or no sales there.
Nokia has right to charge whatever they want.
